Venison

True story--when I was nursing my son, I was in a support group for breastfeeding mothers. One of the girls didn't care much for her in-laws. She told us that the first time she ate dinner at their house, they fed her chili. After they ate, they told her it was venison. Being an animal lover she was very upset!

She told us nursing moms she was planning on serving them some very "special" coffee with the cream already added.

Anyway, Blondie, that is just so skeevy with the monkey meat! Shudder!

(Editted for typos.)

I guess you'll kill and eat anything if you're hungry enough! Even raw monkey!

 and might I add *BLORK!*...no....DOUBLE *BLORK!!!*

VERY off topic but it reminds me of the movie (was it Raiders of the Lost Ark? or one of the others?) where there was a meal of monkey brains served IN the monkey noggin!

OK....is anyone still with me here or have you all passed out from disgust? :p :earseek:

I thought of Raiders as well.

I don't really *get* why animal lovers are offended at the thought of venision when most will eat beef. Personally, I would draw the line at eating an animal that is normally raised as a pet (dog, cat), but I think there is something a bit off about not wanting to eat the *cute* animals while being willing to eat beef.

on a related note...has anyone eaten buffalo?

I've heard it is really leaner than beef.

I think they had it on the menu at Artist Point but I didn't want to pay $30+ for a meal I wasn't sure I was going to love

I think that was in the first installment of the Faces of Death video series where the monkey is brought to a special table that has a hole cut out in the middle of it specifically for the monkey. The monkey is locked in place and the diners then proceed to beat the monkey's head with a little mallet type device until it dies.

Then a waiter comes over and cuts open the skull and serves the monkey brains.

It's supposed to bring you closer to God or something along those lines!

I agree with your statement. I don't eat red meat or pork and haven't in many years.

We are having deer chili this weekend. That is the only way I will eat it. The Cincinnati style of course. Chili on top of spagetti with shreaded cheese on top of the chili. Brother in law gets one deer every year and gives us a couple of packs of the deerburger.

that they are eating moose or deer......these are Maine critters and some of them would not last the winters .....there are alot of them..but back to the food element........venison and moose meat is so lean that it is chewy sometimes in the steak......but the burger is something else......we use one part beef to two parts venison to keep it from falling apart on the grill or when we make meatloaf or meatballs.....

I've had Beef-a-lo - which is a hybred beef/buffalo. Had relatives that raised them. Very lean and not tough at all.

I have had buffalo, burgers and steak. Very tender, low fat, and sadly, very expensive.

To answer the OPs question, yes, I would tell. And I would have an alternative dish, just in case. I don't like the taste of deer meat. I do like rabbit, I had reindeer sausage in Alaska, it was yummy. I have not had moose.

I've never tried venison and I don't know that I want to at this point in my life. My FIL is a hunter and I am always weary when we at at their house. I like when he serves chicken because I am sure that it isn't bambi.

I have had buffalo chili and burgers before. It tasted like beef to me.

I ahvent had venison in a long time, but I have had it.

I personally wouldn't mind it, but some may not.

It doesn't bother me at all.

I don't like venison, and I can tell the difference. Even in chili and sloppy joes it just has a gamey flavor that I don't like. I have also had buffalo burgers, and found them very dry (but they were grilled so that could have been the problem). I would tell people before I served it. I will add sausage to my ground beef and will always tell people because they may not be expecting it.

Okay all of you animal lovers why don't you expend some energy debating the saving of the endangered blind spider? Not too many people seem worried about that. Wouldn't that be more productive? ;) :p

Sorry, Mickey it's one of the debates on the debate board!

See Blind, Cave spiders :D

I love venison. Don't get the opportunity to eat it very often, though.

We also like elk and buffalo at our house.
