Hi , I am new to scrapbooking please tell me all I need to know about Vellum. What can you use it for and do you need any special adhesives?

Fairly new too so I can't provide you with all the answers; however, I can tell you what I know.

The best ways I know to attach vellum are with brads or eyelets... pretty much everything else will show thruough (if there is something that doesn't I would love to know what it is). Also if you are putting something on top of it (for example a picture and die cut lettering) then you can use adhesive to attach the vellum to whatever background under where the picture/die cut will go since that area wont be visable obviously.

As for what to use it for... pretty much anything you would use normal paper for I guess... it just adds a different look and texture. The only thing I can say for SURE I use it for are wings for tinkerbell paper piecings :p

Not sure if that helps much... I'm too new to scraping to give you a ton of examples

I have used it to print my journalling on. depending on my mood, I will either use a glue stick to attach to the page, (don't push really hard on the glue stick or you'll get "gobs" and those do show through, but otherwise I've not had a problem with the glue showing through) or brads, eyelets, etc. you can print pictures out on it which is fun, you can print stuff out on it and put it over the picture.... maggie

I use vellum to do journaling on. There is a lot you can do with it. As for adhesive I use vellum tape. You can't really see it through the vellum and it works well. I just attach it to the corners.

I use my vellum mostly for journaling too, I have also used it for click art images I use. To adhere it, if I don't use eyelets or brads, I use the 3M Vellum tape and I love it. Just a small strip works, and if I am putting it on a color I think it will show(it doesn't normally), then I put it under the image or the printing.

I love vellum! I use it for journaling a lot. I also use it if I want to tone down patterned paper. I have torn strips and attached them as a border for a water themed page.

I attach it in different ways: vellum tape, brads, eyelets, xyron and spray adhesive works great. I've also hand stitched it right on the page.

HTH!

I havent used it but I hear the spray on adhesive works pretty good too.

I just used this for my 24 pieces for an exchange and it worked great. One suggestion, it makes your hands very sticky so try and use something to hold you paper with, so you don't get spray on your hands. Next time I will use tweezers or a paperclip or something.

One thing about vellum adhesive/tape, put it on your paper first (not the vellum) and really rub it all over so it's even, then put the vellum on top - this way the tape doesn't show through, and you haven't scratched up the vellum. It took me a few tries before I got that.. yeah, I can be slow :)

You can also use staples to adhere it to your page.. I think I've seen different colored staples too, like pink, blue and green.

I was just at an SDV(scrappers dream vacation) this weekend and learned to use the Vellum Spray Adhesive. It's GREAT. Even when you have colored paper, like black, the adhesive won't show through. I used the CM clear photo splits before on the same type of page and it showed through...not good. The Xyron is also great b/c it makes the vellum a sticker.
