Hello Disney Fans,

May 2nd-11th is our travel dates.

We will be staying offsite and would welcome any feedback on when to book a rental car.

We are in need of a mini-van as there are 6 of us which includes DD4 and DD1.

So far we have found enterprise for $442 which includes my wife's work discount. We have reserved at this price but any feedback on any cheaper options is appreciated.

Thanks!

There are several discount codes out there. Rental car mamma .com is a great one to check out.

I find the cheapest time to book a rental is about 2-4 weeks before your departure. Check the company websites daily. they run promo's all the time. We rented a van last year picked up at MCO. 8 day rental $278. That was 2 weeks before our trip. It was a mini-van special. Don't worry...they won't run out of rentals :)
This past January we went with an SUV..great price again but we'll go back to a mini van next trip.

just keep checking and re-booking when you find a better price. I checked weekly for months leading up to our trip. Paid off in spades

For this year's trip, we got our best price just under two weeks out. We have a standard SUV reserved with Alamo for $285 taxes included. A full size car is running at $139 all-in, but we enjoy the larger vehicle as that is what we drive at home.

Until about two months out, check "regularly" (every week or two) just to keep an eye on the rates. Rebook if you find something lower. Never lock in early with a full paid/uncancellable reservation as prices WILL go lower before your travel date.

Once you are about 10 weeks out, look more often (at least once per week). At 8 weeks, start checking every few days. By 4-6 weeks, you may even start to watch more than once a day, as rates can often be very volatile and you may get in on a big drop before they vault back up.

There are usually car rental threads for each specific travel month on the Transportation board. Join the May group and then you'll have the added benefit of sharing in the great information and deals others find. If you have a Costco membership or CAA, some rental companies will offer discounts you can use as long as the reservation is in the same name as the card holder. Visa and MasterCard (and sometimes Amex) also offer discounts and coupons, but you must be able to pay for the rental with the card associated with the discount offer.

Our preference for car rental companies is Alamo, so we are often willing to pay a little more for them to help guarantee us a good experience. We like the fact that we get to select our own vehicle rather than be assigned one (we had a bad experience last Christmas with our assigned vehicle from Budget, so we are once bitten and twice shy). Whatever car rental company you ultimately choose, be sure to sign up for their free membership program as it usually allows you to skip the line at the airport or even (in Alamo's case, with their Insiders program) offer you an overall discount on the rental price.

I just booked w/ Budget yesterday for our upcoming trip (Sept 22-30) so a week and a day.

Minivan - $278.93 USD

Offer Codes Used:

Pay Now Rate
AIR MILES Reward Program BCD A639500

MUWZ127 USD 30 Off Weekly Rental/Paperlss Coupon

HTH :thumbsup2

Oops - sorry, just re-read your post and notice you are not going until next year....so my codes will not be very useful, sorry!

You can also check out MouseSavers website, they list codes and coupons, it is kept UTD and they explain how the varies companies use the various codes and coupons. It DEFINITELY pays to try different combos of codes/coupons and different companies.

Make sure you note which rental car companies are ONSITE at MCO vs OFFSITE. I will always go with onsite even if it costs a little more. I dont want the hassle of a shuttle bus to my rental car.

Also, look into Fastbreak/RapidRez (budget) and NAtional (cant recall name) 'clubs' - they are usually free and let you input your DL # etc before you leave so you can just go to the rental lot rather than lining up @ the counter @ MCO.

Our last three trips, we have always ended up booking a car through Expedia, with Dollar. They've always had the best rate, and its nice to pre-pay in Canadian dollars.

Just booked with Alamo for trip Aug.31-Sept.9. When you join isiders club (free) you not only get to skip the counter and go right to the area and pick your car, you can also add 1 additional driver for free.:thumbsup2
