Ok ladies and gents... I have a question for ya. For those of you who have tried veggie burgers and the like from Boca and Morningstar Farms and others like it, what is your favorite? I've tried them before, but it's been awhile. Best tasting, best consistency? :scratchin Being the only one under this roof dieting, these are just so easy to cook up single serving style while others have the big, greasy juicy beef burgers. (I should just say other, not plural, but he'll have two or three anyway).

While we're at it, how about "chicken" varieties? Veggies, patty style?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have!!!! :goodvibes

I spent about 6 months trying to make a go of it as a vegetarian, and I ate plenty of veggie burgers.

In general, I found the Morningstar line to be better than Boca across the board. Their burgers were better and their "chicken" was MUCH better.

Boca was all right, and I sure ate my fair share of it, but the consistency was always quite gummy and they had a stronger flavor. The best think I had from them was the grilled cheeseburger--that was pretty tasty.

The Morningstar products usually had better, more "normal" textures and the flavors were less strong and more balanced. I really liked their flavored "chicken" patties--there was a parmesan and garlic one that was great!

Gardenburger stuff was OK, but it was usually more expensive and harder to find. Burger King does have a Gardenburger on the menu, though, and it's pretty tasty.

Same goes with their ground "burger" to use in cooking. Boca's was OK, but was in larger, kind of chewy pieces. Morningstar's was in smaller pieces and the texture was meaty, but not rubbery. I did once try Morningstar's "steak" stips. They were interesting--nothing remotely like real steak, but possibly worth a try if you go in with low expectations.

Thanks for the reply!

I think I'm going to grab a couple morningstar products and try them out. I've actually had the garden burger at Burger King and threw it out after about two bites. I just couldn't eat it. The first bite was bad and the second bite was just to confirm.

I used to work with a guy that would bring morningstar EVERYTHING for lunch and it always looked and smelled so good...almost like the "real thing". I actually think I had tried the Boca grilled cheeseburger, and it was kind of tasty! I may see if I can find that and give it another whirl.

Thanks again!

I agree - Morningstar is WAY better than Boca. I have not tried Gardenburger. Boca was flavorless and had a weird texture. My DD7 even liked Morningstar and thought it was a regular burger. I've had the deluxe as well as veggie patties. Haven't tried the chicken yet, but it's on my list!

I've been veggie for many years and love the Morning Star Farms products! I think the Tomato Basil Pizza Burger is my favorite. Enjoy :)

I hate to go to the grocery store, but it soundslike I just MUST make th trip to try something new!

Thanks for the question and the answers from the posters.

Morningstar Grillers Prime are excellent, my fav frozen veggie burgers hands down. They can even be juicy (and I just microwave them).
Also from Morningstar are good brats, corn dogs (if you like such a thing), and bacon. The bacon makes a tasty BLT.
My favorite meat substitute product is Nates meatballs (mushroom variety). They are available at Whole Foods and are excellent!

good luck

The meat subsitutes my family enjoys most are:

Riblets - GardenBurger really good! great on rib sandwiches too

Corndogs - Morning Star. Best in the convection oven

Buffalo nuggets - Morning Star? spicy though

Meatballs - Veggie Patch or any kind really. paired with gravey or marinera

Chick patties - Quorn or any other.

I agree that the Tomato basil burger is tasty.

Bacon - Morning star. Best in the toaster oven set for toast. DO NOT OVER COOK! It will turn from good to chemically. Yes it's true great BLTS

I like to go out to Nations burgers for their harvest burger, it's a pressed patty type.
In a pinch I will do burger king the new patties are better than before.

We eat alot of fake meat around here

fake groundround in the tacos with added seasoning of course, in enchiladas, in chilli and in all those bakes on the back of the Bisquick box.

The GardenBurger Portobello Burgers are fantastic -- I eat them naked (not me the burger) -- no bun no condiments. I went to an herbalist a couple weeks ago because traditional medications are not helping me at all with some health problems and she advised that I go on the blood type diet --which basically eliminates all meat/chicken. I have tried the Morningstar Italian Sausage -- again naked -- not too bad -- not great but edible. On the other hand the Spinach Artichoke Veggie Bites were gross-- actually it was the breading that was gross - I peeled it off and ate the inside. .. not bad but not worth the effort or price. I plan on trying some more Morningstar products.

I would like to add that Morningstar Farms has the best Hot Dogs out of all the tofu/veggie brands.
