My DD6 came home today informing me that for her Thanksgiving feast at school I need to supply either a hot or cold vegetable enough for 10 children. I have NO idea, would have loved it if I could have brought dessert. Anyone have any ideas of things the kids this age would like!??!

I would send my student into school with a Tupperware container full of carrot sticks. Maybe with some dip?

Steam a bag of baby carrots, drain and add a bit of butter and brown sugar. But only if they can be served warm or the butter will solidify. Every child I have ever know has liked carrots this way!

Or you could look for a glazed recipe that uses honey..:goodvibes

Raw baby carrots and celery with peanut butter (if they're not having a huge feast). If they are, just slices of celery which can also be dipped alongside the carrots.

For our classroom thanksgiving feasts, corn works well. Most of the children will actually eat it....unlike the green veggies that we serve.

Well, my dd is not a carrot eater so I would recommend mashed potatoes.

If it's going with a Thanksgiving meal I say make a huge pan of mac and cheese and be done with it, that goes along good with any meal. :thumbsup2

I assume this is a side dish. What about winter squash or sweet potatoes with marshmallows? Mashed potatoes? A relish tray? Green bean casserole?

If it's a main course my sister makes my veggie DD a nice tofu lasagna for Thanksgiving.

Corn, carrots, green beans are all good. Macaroni and cheese isn't a vegetable, lol. I would think that they would have assigned potatoes separately so would check on that before bringing them.

My kid always loved cucumber slices with ranch dressing, even at that age.

Mine did too and even bell peppers dipped in dressing. I don't think I'd recommend one take the peppers to a school event though. Mine also loved (still do actually), broccoli and cauliflower with dip too.

While I agree that most kids love corn and I'm sure it would be a hit, I have to say, I'm not a huge fan. My son could eat 10 ears of corn if it's on the cob though.

I would make celery sticks and fill them with either cream cheese or peanut butter and then put rasins on the top.

My 2nd graders love carrot sticks! (And give them some ranch dressing to go with them, and they think they're in heaven.)
