Veggie Burgers in Pluto's??

My teen boys will love cruising--all the food they can eat... One boy loves pizza, soda, and ice cream and the other one loves all food. I should do a before and after weigh-in. But not for me!!! :rotfl:

There will be a weight gain, there is just SO much food, honestly, I never felt hungry. But it is vacation, so just go and enjoy. You can lose the weight afterwards (I am working on my December cruise weight right now---and some (a lot) of extra).

Something else vegetarians with small kids may wish to be aware of - the counselors in the club don't really watch what your kids eat at mealtime. About a year ago a vegetarian came back agast that her child had a hot dog at mealtime in the kids club - after she had told a counselor her kids don't eat meat. Although I tend to think the counselors should have either made the effort or told her "sorry, if your kid has dietary restrictions, its best if you feed them" I think its probably best if anyone who cares what their kids eat monitor their kids intake themselves instead of relying on the counselors.

That's strange. When my kids were in the club and ate with the kids, they had a different meal from the other kids (they said the other kids wanted what they had--I really don't remember what it is). Now my girls were 6 on their first cruise and they are now 11, so they were aware of what they were eating and they did ask questions and reminded the CMs that they were vegetarians.

So sometimes it isn't a problem, but it is probably best to check on them yourself. Honestly, my kids have only eaten with the club 3 times out of the 6 cruises we have taken. They prefer to eat with us. They said they don't get to pick their own food in the club and they don't like that, so we would pick them up for lunch, go have lunch together and then take them back to the club (if they wanted to go) and pick them up again for dinner.

I think that is how its supposed to work. IIRC, her child was younger and the information didn't get passed. For the older vegetarian kids I know (we are omnivores in our household, but I have a lot of granola-y friends) they are fine at monitoring their own intake - they know better than to assume a hot dog is soy. The little ones don't know enough to know.

Thanks for the replies. I really like Boca Burgers (as well as garden burgers) so this is great. I will take a look at Pluto's to see if their grill is covered in cow hamburger meat. At my work the cooks leave a little spot for the veggie burgers on the grill and do their best not to mix things together. I definitely would NOT eat pieces of cow meat on my veggie burger but I did not want to argue with any of the posters on my choice of not eating meat or come across like a fanatic (which would only feed their comments). I've been off meat for 18 years so I'm not changing anytime soon ;) I can hope that the cooks try their best to keep the two burgers apart and I will speak with them (very nicely of course) when I get on the boat. If you befriend people and speak in a respectful way, they will usually try to help you out, I have found.

thanks again to those of you who replied with "real" answers :teeth:

I wonder if they can microwave the burger so they don't have to use the grill where the regular burgers have been fried. Has anyone noticed a microwave at Plutos?

That's a good question. I think that's what they do at Burger King.

I would hope if you asked the cook to clean the grill with a grill brush he/she would. As someone who works in a restaurant(and a pesco-vegetarian) the temperature of a grill is going to be high enough to kill any bacteria from the actual meat and if they scrub the grill with a wire cleaner/scraper then it would get off any "chunks" of meat(if there were any on there). Same with things that are fried. Anytime you go into a restaurant and get anything fried(cheese sticks, french fries, etc) it is VERY seldom that there is a separate fryer for meat and non-meat items(chicken fingers, seafood, etc), but the temp of the oil is going to be very high and kill any bacteria that was on the meat product. Just some food for thought... I am very excited to find out they have veggie burgers. There are many people out there who are not vegetarians but prefer veggie burgers just for the health issue of not wanting to eat too much red meat. Now do they have veggie dogs too? :goodvibes

Oh, that would be wonderful to have a tofu-pup anywhere in Disney!!! The one guide DH and I use called A Vegetarian's Guide to Dining in Disney and the Greater Orlando Area makes a joke about someone asking Casey's to offer Tofu Pups!!! LOL...I WISH!!! :flower:

Vegie hots dogs would be a very simple thing for them to offer. It's not as if they would have to make them and there are many different sources of fresh and frozen.

That would be great if Pluto's carried Veggie Dogs! I know lots of meat eaters that choose veggie burgers for the health aspect and watching their weight. You can eat at least two veggie burgers for the calories and fat intake of one cow burger.
I always try to spread the word when places carry vegetarian items because it is not always advertised well. We have a place called Hot Dog on a Stick out here and they have veggie corndogs now so I sent an email to people at my work that I knew were health conscience and/or vegetarian and spread the word. It is a supply and demand issue, if people eat enough of them, places will carry them.

I am SO happy they at least have Veggie Burgers on board the ship. That is terrific and will make for a quick lunch by the pool with my kids.
