Hi! My boyfriend and I are going to disney world in september, we're going to be on the dining plan and we're debating where to eat! We do not eat any kind of meat. No chicken, no fish, no seafood, etc. We do eat dairy and eggs. Here are some of our options.

Momma melrose
sci fi diner
wispering canyon
1900 park fare
San Angel Inn

We can't decide between these. Out of them we have to pick 3! please let me know what you've all had at these places and if you liked them enough to go back.

I'm concerned about wispering canyon because they don't seem to have a veggie appetizer? I know we can call ahead but we are both worried about that because we like to know what we're getting ahead of time. (we usually read menus before we sit down to eat at a restaurant to make sure there is something we want). My boyfriend is much more picky than I am.

Also I'm concerned about 1900 park fare, and I'd like to know everything vegetarian on the buffet. Is there an email address where I could email to find out these things? Like I said I'd rather not have to call ahead to tell them because (from my experience) they usually don't tell you ahead of time what they're going to make you, they just make something from your specifications.

About San Angel Inn. I have read on here they have a very small separate vegetarian menu. This might be something my boyfriend would be interested in as he LOVES mexican, but I can't seem to find any info of what is ON the menu. is there an e-mail address for them to ask what's on the menu? Have any of you had a meal here? If so what'd you get?

Please let me know, and anywhere else you might recommend (We do have others on our list that are 'must dos' so let us know what you've done. Also if there are any other resources you know of that might help us in our decisions. I've read the food porn thread (too many times to count! :teeth: ), I've seen the vegetarian pages on allears, and I do have the vegetarian walt disneyworld book. They both seem a bit out dated which is why I'm asking! Thank you so much!

I had a good experience at Mama Melrose's, but only if you like breaded eggplant.

subscribing-- as my 14 yo daughter has decided to become vegetarian. Not that she still will be in 6 months when we go, but...!!!

yes, my boyfriend loves breaded eggplant which is why he wants to go there. Thanks! And keep them coming!

One of my sons has had nachos without the meat and with extra peppers at both San Angel and Whispering Canyon. At San Angel, they did have to be sent back the first time -- our waiter's English wasn't very good. You might even be able to sub beans at San Angel.

For counter service, I love the hummus/broccoli slaw/tomato sandwich at Columbia Harbor House.

Have you looked at the menus at Boma or Spoodles? Both have a good selection of veggie options. Also, the vegetable couscous and the Jasmina salad at Marrakesh is delicious.

Thanks! I do love that columbia harbor house sandwich! it's so good.

Also boma is on our 'must do' list. Spoodles is not as I've been there 2x and don't think there's really anything my boyfriend would like. He didn't seem too interested in the menu at all.

Marakkesh didn't have any veggie options on the all ears menus? Is there something I don't know about? We're fairly big eaters so I don't think couscous would cover it! ;)

this might not belong here but got to ask somewhere, my 15 yr grand daughter turned Vegetarian and I figured ok she can live on mac and & chesse then now she tells me no grany cause chesses has an enzimes from the cow stomach. ok is she trying to push me over the edge here. does most Vegetarians over look this or is she dead wrong?

it really depends on the cheese. I don't leave out cheese because it's virtually impossible to know which cheeses do and do not, especially when you're eating at a restaurant and can't read the packaging.

Reguardless if she's against eating cheese for that reason I wouldn't be nasty or condescending about it, if she's uncomfortable eating it please don't make her.

thanks.

vegetarian cheese list

Here's a list of cheeses that do not use animal produced rennet. You'll be surprised to see a large list of 'normal' brands such as boars head, land o lakes, polly-o etc. I hope this helps!

It seems like the vegetarian menu at San Angel is a big secret, doesn't it? I did find this:

Seems the veggie menu has some kind of salad and a combo plate with a bean burrito and a cheese enchilada.

I have only been to one of the restaurants you listed (Sci-Fi) and honestly I thought the food sucked. Now, it was a long time ago and I wasn't a vegetarian then, but that's my experience. WCC's vegetarian entree sounds really tasty, I have to say. If I were you, I'd put it on the list and tell them to 86 the chili from the nachos! :)

Thanks laura! I've eaten at the sci-fi and quite enjoyed it, I thought I'd put it on the list to get other veggie opinions for my boyfriend, like I said he's quite a bit pickier than I am, so I want him to get a feel for others opinions so I don't take him to a place he doesn't enjoy.

I agree with Laura about WCC. Have the nachos minus the chili for your appetizer.

I HIGHLY recommend eating at Boma if you are a vegetarian. DD and I are both vegetarians and DD also has a severe egg allergy. I spoke with one of the Boma chef's and was told that approximately 70% of the buffet is vegetarian.

Some other restaurants that I have enjoyed are Le Cellier (crazy since it's a "steakhouse", but I had a really good vegetarian risotto there in January), California Grill, Coral Reef, and Crystal Palace lunch. Also, a lot of the allears menus don't reflect all of the vegetarian options. Every TS restaurant has at least one vegetarian entree and the chefs are very eager to please with any dietary issues.

A couple of CS restaurants that I really like are Columbia Harbour House in MK and Tangerine Cafe in Epcot. I used to really like Tusker House, but they changed their vegetarian sandwich from a delicious foccacia bread vegetable sandwich with hummus to an inedible vegetable pita sandwich with feta cheese and some bottled greek salad dressing. Yuck! :crazy2:

I don't go crazy about the cheese issues, but I definitely now some vegetarians that do. My preference is vegetarian cheese though. Tillamook (which you can buy at most grocery stores and Costco) is well known for being vegetarian. Also, I see that you are from Illinois (me too!). If you are in the Chicago suburbs and ever go to Trader Joe's, all of their house brand cheeses are vegetatian.

Don't be so sure. My 12 year old became a vegetarian 10 years ago and got the whole family into it. :thumbsup2

I became vegetarian at 15, that was 11 years ago! so maybe it will stick!

Thanks again for the suggestions! Boma is one of my favorites! I was there last year and LOVED it so it's definately on our must do list!

Mostly I'm trying to find table service restaurants so that I can make reservations as soon as possible. I'm sure it's gonna be packed in sept. when we go.

My mom went veggie at 14...40 years later and her mom is still waiting for her to change her mind... :lmao:
Imagine when my aunt (mom's sister), my cousin, my sister, and I all ended up vegetarians in our early teens, too...
Grandma has finally stopped trying to give us tenderloin :rolleyes1

Anyway, back to topic...we loved Crystal Palace...as did my veg-cousin...plus the chef there was SUPER helpful and told us all the desserts that were out for the day were gelatin-free...and we could see him going through the ingredients in his head. Love it when they actually listen & think and don't just tell you what you want to hear :thumbsup2

ETA: I lied. Just mentioned the thread to my mom & I guess she is still being offered the tenderloin... :rotfl:

ETA: Sorry. Must have clicked quote instead of edit.

I have pics of some of the vegetarian food we had this past Oct. Let me know if you want me to clog this thread up with them?

You may want to check out this thread as it has a lot of suggestions:

ANd here's a good thread on vegetarian counter service options:

I'll repost what I posted at that above thread, though:
Hi! Let me preface this by saying I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian and I LOVE to eat in WDW!!!

The veggie burger at B&C is more like a boca style. See here:

At MGM, you can get a kick butt meal at Mama Melrose. 50sPTC also has a vegetarian stuffed pepper.

At Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace, here is what the tofu bowl looks like:

If you want a superb vegetarian TS meal, try Jiko. It is our favorite!

The Tangeriene Cafe veggie platter is really really good!
Also, they have a vegetarian menu at San Angel Inn...if you go to the Cantina for counter service, they are good at creating vegetarian versions of many of their offerings.

Columbia Harbour House's Lighthouse Sandwich and Vegetarian Chili are some of our favorites...but we've never been able to get that bread bowl!

If you happen upon Wolfgang Puck Cafe, don't be tempted by the pumpkin ravioli. It is made with a meat product basting the ravioli.

I've always wanted to try the veggie burger at GFC but never seem to make our way over there.

We made the mistake of asking for the Garden Galley Salad without chicken at Columbia Harbour House. Hidden under the lettuce were specs of chicken, so beware of this menu item alteration.

And I was able to get Tofutti brand soy ice cream at the Main Street Ice Cream Shop. It is not posted on the menu, you have to ask for it. The chocolate was awesome!

In addition, we've also had great vegetarian meals at Boma and San Angel Inn.

ENJOY!
