I am a vegetarian, not a real strict one, but still. What places do you think I could get the most variety of foods? Is there a restaurant that you think would be a great one for a vegetarian.

Are there any counter places that you can think of that have salads, fruit, etc. not just burgers and fries?

Thank you for any tips you can share

Not only am I a Vegetarian, but I am also a Vegan :thumbsup2 Are you going to all 4 parks ? You can get salads, fruit, ect. at some of the counter places. Also if you go to any sit down place you can call ahead and speak to a chef about what they have to eat and many times they can get something special for you.

When will you be going to DisneyWorld ? I will try to find some links if I can that might help you out. Good luck and enjoy the Magic of Disney :goodvibes

I'm vegetarian and DH is vegan. As the other poster suggested, i would definately take a look at the menus on allearsnet.com. You might also look through the restraunt section of this site. You can search that forum, I found a lot of good info that way.
In my personal experience, since you asked for counter service reccomendations, the Columbia Harbor House in MK has a nice veggie chili and a vegetarian sandwich. I've heard that you can ask for salads without the chicken etc. at some counter service places. There are also carts at most of the parks that sell fresh fruit. Anyway, don't fret, there are lots of options these days!

If I remember correctly, Morocco had some vegetarian choices. Good choices too. My three years of that lifestyle taught me what it was like to be a second class citizen.

You're not going to have any problems at all in WDW. Pretty much every restaurant we've been to has at least one vegetarian choice on the menu. I've been a vegetarian my whole adult life, and WDW is one of my favorite places for dining. Many CS places will have more for you than just a salad. We do more TS than CS, but definitely check out the links from the PP's and all the menus at www.allearsnet.com. A few places that come to mind:

Boma (buffet) is not to be missed by anyone, but especially vegetarians. The variety and quality just can't be beat, in my opinion.

Rose & Crown has a vegetarian curry that I'll have to try if I ever order anything bigger than the fruit and cheese plate (gotta save room for sticky toffee pudding, ya know).

Marrakesh has an entire 3 course vegetarian meal (at least they used to, it's been a while).

San Angel Inn, though there's nothing vegetarian on the regular menu, has a separate vegetarian menu--you just have to ask for it. I think it only has two items, but it's something.

Even Coral Reef (seafood) and LeCellier and Concourse Steakhouse (steak) have (decent) vegetarian choices. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Have a yummy time!

We went to WDW with a Vegetarian and we had no problems. We went to all of the restaurants we wanted to and they made wonderful dishes for my friend.
BOMA is a great choice for breakfast and dinner. Huge choices... Great foods.
Cindy's Castle made up a wonderful meal at dinnertime.
50's Primetime was great for lunch and dinner and will make foods and desserts for Vegans also.
If I remember correctly, Crystal Palace has a good variety of Vegetarian dishes.
I'd call the ADR dining number and they will guide you.

what exactly do you mean?

i'm a vegetarian, but not a vegan - no meat, fowl or fish for me

i've been going to wdw for many years and have not had a problem with finding anything nutritious to eat, whether it is a snack cart, counter service or table service restaurant.

i'd also highly recommend Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge - it has vegetarian food even carnivores would love!

Thank you all for your insight & tips. I feel much better now.

Someone asked what I meant about not being a very strict vegetarian. I dont eat ANY meat but I do eat some dairy, like cheese!!!

I will go check out those menus. Thanks again.

That just gives you the title lacto/ ovo vegetarian. (Ovo if you still eat eggs that is) You will have a great time.

This will be my first trip as a lacto/ovo vegetarian, I am so excited and impressed at what I have found on the menus to eat. At home in the farming community where I live it is hard to find anything besides a pasta dish that is vegetarian.

Have a good trip!

As a Lacto-Ovo myself for almost 8 years, and I really enjoy going to WDW.

As the others have said, I don't recall anywhere that couldn't accommodate my dining habits. It probably helps that I do like a variety of foods.

BOMA is great, as is almost every buffet.

Someone mentioned Columbia Harbor House, that veggie chili is good!

I'm also Ovo-Lacto and haven't had any problems at WDW. I've had trips where we ate mainly CS and trips (with DDP) where we also ate a lot of TS. Neither was ever a problem, though options can be limited at any one place. The fruit stands/carts are great, too - they fruit is nice, not old and mushy. :-)

Couple of thoughts:

The veggie burgers are Boca. Only you know if that's ok with you. I like them, but not every day.

Check out the menus others have suggested as a start.

Don't worry if your group wants to go to a place where the menu doesn't list veggie items. I have never been to a WDW restaurant that wouldn't accommodate vegetarians somehow. At some, they have things like veggie burgers that just aren't on the printed menu and at some, the chef will ask about your specific needs and fix something up.

If you make any reservations, note that there's a vegetarian in the group and then mention it again when you check in. If you're really worried, you can call the restaurant itself ahead of time and speak with one of the chefs.

The Rasta Pasta (minus chicken) at RFC is out. The sauce isn't vegetarian, but it took a whisper from one staff member after another had lied to me to keep me from being sick all evening....... While some people like their veggie burgers, I find them inedible..... sigh.....

Enjoy!!

Buffets provide great options. I love all the suggested restaurants....especially Boma!!!

Peco's Bills has a yummy Kit Carson salad in MK. Morrocan restaurant at Epcot is fabulous. ABC Commissary had multiple choices at MGM. Tusker House has a fantastic sandwich on foccacia bread at AK I found that most places had choices or were happy to whip something up.

When we did family style meals for dinner such as Liberty Tree Tavern, I called ahead & they would make an extra vegetarian dish for me.

I find WDW to be one of the easiest places to travel to as a vegetarian. Check out the allears site for many reviews & details.

I'm a vegetarian and have never had trouble finding something to eat at WDW. Here are a few of my favorite CS restaurants:

Columbia Harbour House in MK
Sunshine Seasons in The Land at Epcot
Tangerine Cafe in Morocco at Epcot
Earl of Sandwich in DTD

Many people recommend Earl of Sandwich. Is it a sit down restaurant? It wasn't available for any reservations. I am assuming its like a Subway sandwich place where you order your sandwich and find a place to sit. Is that rue?

Yup, it's counter service, like Subway. I haven't been, but I hear it's very good.

Someone above posted that Tusker's has a foccaca (Sp?) bread sandwich, but they don't anymore. Now it is a pita with a few cold vegetables and italian dressing. I thought it was lame and unfilling.

I have done WDW as a lacto/ovo for many years and yes there are things to eat, but not a ton of variety. If you do sitdowns you're better of cause the chef can usually make something for you, but counter service is a lot of salads and sandwiches.

Here's some options for counter service

Starring Rolls at MGM - vegie pita with chips - really good

Columbia HH at MK - Lighthouse sandwich with humus and brocoli slaw - good

Salads at Pinochios at MK, Flame Tree at AK, Pecos Bill at MK, Restaurantosaurs at MK (this one was gross), Liberty Inn at EP - usually if they have a salad you can order it without meat.

The Land had a vegie sandwich that was okay.

They have cheese or vegetable pizza at multiple places.

Foodcourts have pasta and a few choices.

The book that people have mentioned for vegetarians is pretty out of date and a lot of things have changed.
