New here, forgive me if this has been discussed before. We're planning our first trip to disney, and I love the idea of ddp b/c I don't want to think about money while we're on vacation. My daughter and I are vegetarians, dh and ds aren't. There are a few places I'm interested in that have limited veggie options, or none at all for kids. Does anyone know if any restaraunts allow subsitutions? I know special things can be made, I'm just wondering if they allow that with the ddp? I'm really excited to to try the WCC, but they have no vegetarian kids options on their dinner menu :confused3 TIA

I can't see it being a problem. Just make sure you mention it when you book your ADR's and then again when you arrive at the restaurant.

My niece is lactose intollerant and the chefs made her special food while eating on the dining plan.

We are a vegetarian family and had little trouble eating at WDW. However, vegetarian isn't a generic term. Here are some strategies we chose:

Make good use of buffets. Every buffet has vegetarian options and since it is a buffet, getting enough to fill you up won't be a problem. We chose Boma, Chef Mickey's bfast and did the Fantasmic pkg at Hollywood & Vine. Next trip I hope to fit in L or D at Crystal Palace.

We avoided places that were "meat focused". For me WCC fit this description as did 'Ohana and the dinner shows. I also thought Garden Grill's menu was a poor fit for our diet.

We do eat fish so Narcoossee's and Coral Reef were also great for us.

As for kids meals: Nephew chose cheese pizza at Coral Reef and ate the whole thing as well as apple slices for his appetizer. At Narcoossee's he chose Pasta (marinara sauce).

my dd is vegetarian but she eats fish and most of the
restaurants do have a fish alternative.

as for ohana, we did not even ask but when the cm noticed
dd was not eating meat he asked why, she told him and he went away
an came back with a specially made stir fry just for her, she
was well chuffed.

I am also a PESCETARIAN (one who eats fish) along with
veggies, fruits.
I find this an easy diet to find food at WDW--much easier than
when I was on a Vegan Diet (not meat, cheese, eggs or animal products).
It is very hard to avoid dairy at WDW--I usually avoid it at home but
whenever we go to WDW-I go ahead and eat it.
We will be eating at:

Ohanas (they have grilled shrimp--and veggie choices)
Tutto Italia (had great Salmon)
Le Cellier (has a few seafood choices)
Coral Reef (seafood and a Tofu dish)
Bomas (has many Vegetarian choices)

I have found that most TS restaurants have
a Seafood choice as well as Beef and Chicken which
helps if you are traveling with others who don't eat as you
(everyone gets what they want and is happy).

I have read that you can also call 48 hours ahead of you
ADR and request a Veggie meal at any TS Restaurant.
I have never done this but have heard of others who have.

There are vegetarian options at practically every restaurant, and the ones that don't have something on the menu can prepare something with advance notice. I will note, though, that the vegetarian issue is one of the reasons we don't use the DDP anymore. Veggie entrees are almost always the most inexpensive, so you don't always save money. It may still be a good idea for your family, but I thought I'd throw that out there for your info.

Thanks everyone. We don't eat fish but I'm pleased to hear that it maybe possible to just call ahead and make a request. There are a couple of places that just really want to go for the atmosphere, even though there are probably better places for us menu-wise. As far as the ddp goes, while us veggies may eat on the cheap, dh is likely to order the most expensive thing on any menu, paying out of pocket or not, I want the dining plan just so I don't have to think about any of it, even if it doesn't save me a dime.

Dont let "meat" focused meals turn you away. Garden Grill was one of my favorite meals. I am also looking forward to trying Ohana on this trip. Disney has always had something for me to eat.

At Le Cellier it usually is a huge ceasar salad (mushroom allergy keeps me from the normal dish) but I am never stuck with salad for all my dinners at Disney. Coral Reef made me something 2 different trips as I dont eat fish.

Try anyplace that sounds interesting, Disney will make sure you are not left out.

Also, travelling with a vegetarian (DD15). She does not eat fish ("nothing with a nervous system") therefore no caesar salad (typically caesar dressing is made with anchovies. I have looked at almost every menu and was surprised to see that the caesar salad seemed to be the "vegetarian" option at many restaurants. We did end up with 3 buffet reservations which will be great for her!!
