For dietary reasons and helath I have had to go meatless. Not a problem for me at home, I was a vegetarian for years before I had kids and I can cook myself lots of good food.

I've just not been to WDW and not eaten any meat. I'm kind of worried about what options I will have in the parks with all the fast food counters. I know that at the resort I will have more choices.

Can anyone recommend some good places with vegetarian meals? We only have 2 sit down meals planned, the rest will more than likely be counter service. We have breakfast reservations at Boma and the restaurant in Epcot's France.

Is it allowed to ask for something vegetarian?

Thanks so much guys!

Lots of good vegetarian food in WDW! There is a whole bunch of different threads and posts about it if you do a search, but I'll see if I can answer some of these. :)

Every trip I've ever taken to WDW has been as a vegetarian. I've had a great experience there regarding the food situation. Some of the restaurants I had a little apprehension with have often turned out to be the ones I enjoyed the most! :goodvibes

As far as CS each will offer at least one vegetarian option..

MK:

Cosmic Ray's - I love this place. Not only do they have veggie burgers with a great toppings bar, but they also have a veggie wrap.

Village Haus - They used to have a veggie pizza, but I no longer see that on the menu. They do have a cheese pizza, though. You can also ask that the Mediterranean salad be made without the chicken.

Columbia Harbour House - They have vegetarian chili and a hummus sandwich.

Main Street Bakery - I've read that they have a tomato and mozzarella sandwich, but I haven't tried it yet. I usually go there for their tasty cinnamon rolls.

Pecos Bill's - Veggie burger here.. Also you can order the taco salad meatless.

Epcot:

Sunshine Seasons - Love this! Okay, so a lot of options here like vegetarian sushi and a beet salad, but what I really love here is the tofu noodle bowl. They also have a veggie sandwich. Good, but that noodle bowl will keep me coming back.

CS in the World Showcase can be a little tricky but there are things out there.. Apparently, you can get pizza by the slice at the Via Napoli window. I haven't tried this myself so I can't comment on it. I recently read that someone was able to get a vegan meal from Lotus Blossom Cafe. Before you had to worry about chicken stock in their "vegetarian" offerings, so I've always steered clear of that place. We generally tend to go to Liberty Inn because I know that the veggie burger is in fact veggie.

AK:

Pizzafari - They have cheese and veggie pizzas here. I've read that you can get the antipasto salad ordered vegetarian.

Restaurantosaurus - Veggie burgers are offered here and they have a decent toppings bar.

Flametree BBQ - The fruit plate is really tasty! Really nice on a hot day.

DHS:

Okay, I have no suggestions here because I don't do this park, but I'm sure you can find cheese and/or veggie pizzas at Pizza Planet. And a veggie burger somewhere in the park.

Resort CS:

Polynesian - I love Capt. Cook's! They have an adult grilled cheese sandwich, a noodle dish that can be made vegetarian and veggie sushi. They also have cheese flatbread pizza. And in the morning tonga toast! Yum!

Wilderness Lodge - Roaring Fork - They have a veggie sandwich and cheese flatbread pizza. I know they also have a salad offering.

We will be trying Gasparilla Gas and Games this year. The menu sounds promising. I also know Contempo Cafe has a few veggie dishes that sound good as well.

Every TS will have at least one offering. And the buffets are actually pretty good! Some of the more surprising places I have found really good vegetarian food have been Boma, 'Ohana, Biergarten, Whispering Canyon, Liberty Tree Tavern and Cape May's Clambake Dinner.

If you are at a restaurant and you are worried about something.. Ask to see a chef. A lot of times they will gladly come to speak with you. And at most buffets a chef is usually happy to walk you through pointing out what you can and cannot eat.

I hope this has been a little helpful to you. I encourage you to take a look at some of the menus online and see what they have to offer..

Thank you, what great information! How on earth did you remember all of that? :thumbsup2

I'm happy to help! :goodvibes After a few days of veggie burgers you really start to pay attention to the offerings at the different locations. Over the years certain locations have been better for vegetarian foods than others, but WDW overall is really great for vegetarians! I wish I had the same sort of variety locally as I do when I'm on vacation. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! There are lots of vegetarians and vegans around here that are more than happy to answer your questions. :thumbsup2 I always like talking about WDW food. :)

DHS has veggie wraps at one of the CS places -- either Backlot or the other one, I don't remember.

I spent gobs of time looking at the TS menus to arrange ADRs (not only am I veg but I'm allergic to mushrooms, ack!) and got a pretty good grasp on those -- then was *dreading* trying to find something CS. Since diving into them, I've been pleasantly surprised.

I will echo the WS at Epcot being difficult... when we went a few years ago I think I ended up with a pretzel for dinner; there was NOTHING that was okay after visiting a number of countries. However, I've read that the CS at Morocco (Tangerine Cafe) has an excellent vegetarian plate.

Allears.net has menus and I would strongly recommend looking at those.

Also, I have a notepad I've been keeping open on my computer, to note snacks that I want (lol) and recommended veg CS options. A lot of this was mentioned above, but fwiw my CS list is below:

Lighthouse Sandwich @ Columbia Harbor House *sit upstairs (also veg chili)
Pasta Bar @ Port Orleans
Sunshine Seasons @ EPCOT
Sandwich @ Starring Rolls (***They may not have this anymore, but in 2008/9 it was AWESOME!)
Wolfgang Puck Express
Tangerine Cafe (Morocco)
Earl of Sandwich (DTD)
Veggie Wrap - Cosmic Ray's (& fixin' bar)
BBQ @ Flame Tree (Fruit plate)
Pecos Bill - taco salad/fixin' bar
Bakery @ Norway (Sandwiches)
Pepper Market @ CSR
Main St Bakery @ MK

Oops! I did forget Tangierine Cafe. I had a really bad experience there and well..we won't be going back. But yes, lots of people do recommend that dish. :) Also the La Cantina de San Angel (CS in Mexico) has vegetarian empanadas that sound really tasty. I also know that Boulangerie Patisserie has a very nice cheese plate with a half a baguette. The bread was SO good. And Kringla Bakeri og Cafe in Norway has a vegetarian offering but I don't eat goat cheese, but this might appeal to you!

I thought of one other place that might appeal to you, too. It's not on the dining plan - not sure if that is a concern or not! But the menu sounds really good and appeals to my whole family.. The Fountain at the Dolphin has a roasted tomato soup and a vegetarian sloppy joe. We're thinking about possibly stopping there on our second Epcot day. :)

I was in the same boat a while back- worried I have a hard time finding good meals for myself and my veg. daughter. Not to worry! Excellent advice in the posts above. I found it relatively easy to search table service menus for sit down meals, but had a harder time figuring out where I could get counter service. AllEars.net has a great veggie section packed with all kinds of info, including this handy chart listing all quick-service veggie options. I didn't always agree with all her reviews here, but it was very useful for me to have all the counter service options on hand:

Some of my fave veggie-friendly options are:
MK- The veggie flatbread @ Golden Oak Outpost w/ extra hummus
DHS- The grilled veggie sandwich @ Backlot Express
Epcot- The goat cheese salad @ Sunshine Seasons (w/ strawberry shortcake for dessert  )
AK- The veggie pizza w/ caesar salad @ Pizzafari is a great CS option, but Tusker House has awesome vegetarian options!!!
AKL's Mara- Falafel pita w/ a side of roasted red pepper hummus & zebra domes

Have a great trip!

I also love that grilled veggie sandwich at Backlot Express. For another option there, I have ordered the grilled turkey and cheese sandwich, hold the turkey. Basically a really good grilled cheese sandwich with roasted red peppers and arugula on a very nice grain bread. Just be prepared to wait a few extra minutes for the special order.

Another good special order idea is the Dig Site Salad at Restaurantosaurus in AK, hold the chili. It has romaine, tortilla chips, a roasted corn relish, and cheddar cheese, and it was delicious.

I'll cast another vote for Boma at AKL; the chef there is fantastic, and will prepare special dishes for any vegans in your party. Just let them know you're vegetarian when you're seated and someone will walk you through the buffet and explain which items are (and aren't) vegetarian.

Hi
You can also get an Italian sandwich at Pizzafari at AK without the meat, if you don't feel like having pizza. Since it is a special order, you'll have to wait for it, but it really good. I've also ordered the chicken enchiladas only without the chicken at San Angel Inn in Epcot. The just had cheese in them and they were so good!!

The salad at Restaurantosaurus is really good. There is also an (almost exact same) salad at Fairfax Fare in DHS.
