Vegas with teenagers

Just a little background first . . . no, we don't have a choice of whether to take the teens, 17 & 19 with us, it's their aunt's wedding and we are all going. (Now to the questions) We have been to Vegas numerous times without the kiddos, but now need some ideas on what to do with them as this will be our vacation for the year. We will be there in the first part of April and staying in the widescreen rooms at the Excalibur. We are very familiar with the strip and will not have a car. So what is there for all of us to do that won't bore them to tears?
We plan to go the outlet mall south of Excalibur, the Eiffel Tower, Bellagio Fountains and Conservatory, Ceasar's shops, Venetian shops, Fremont Experience, The Hard Rock, Lion Exhibit at MGM . . . any other ideas?

You sound like your very familar w/Vegas- Take them to the Stratosphere rides, they should love that- NYNY rollercoaster too- Blue Man group, excellent show too, just my opinion- I wouldn't let them out alone, you don't say if they are boys or girls, but either could be big trouble there. Good luck- keep an eye on them.

You could take them to a Cirque du Soleil show ( pricey, but good ) - Love is really good if they have discovered the Beatles thru Rock Band

We saw Penn & Teller one trip - a bit of language, but if that doesn't bother you it was a good show too.

There's always concerts at the Hard Rock too.They're too old for Circus-Circus and the games at Excalibur I suppose.

If you pick a hotel with a great pool that could keep them busy - I'm not much of a gambler but I love the pool at the Mirage - and hear the Flamingo is fun too.

When I was a teen in Vegas, I did all of the following: shopping (mostly this), eating (buffets!), swimming, and sightseeing.

If it's their first time: it all depends on how much you trust them, or if you plan to go with them, but a lot of the appeal of Vegas for me was all the lights and fancy things to see. I would just walk through the hotels, go into the gift shops, stop at the coffee shop, walk to the next hotel, and basically just look at the different hotels. I, personally, never stopped at the machines or tried to order anything from the bar or anything ridiculous like that, because I knew my boundaries. You know if your kids know theirs.

We saw magician Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo.

It was a clean show with many families in the audience. The magic was very impressive.

How many days will you be there?

I would recommend renting a car and taking them to Hoover Dam (get there for the first tour of the day) and Red Rock Canyon !!!

Also South Point Resort/Casino is about 5 miles south of Mandalay Bay and has a 16 screen movie theatre, 64 lane bowling alley ... we loved the atmosphere there during our visit earlier this month!!!

I think there is some sort of indoor sky-diving place in Vegas ...

Thanks all for your replies. I am currently compiling a list of things to do and will show the kids the different options along with pics from the web. Just want to do things that will be fun and hopefully keep the eye rollin' to a minimum.

We made a brief stop in Las Vegas last year during our Spring Break to the Grand Canyon and Zion with DS 13 and DS 17 in tow...

We went to Mystere (Cirque du Soleil) show and visited many of the "free" attractions. The shows at Ceasers, rode the tram at the Mirage, but windy weather stopped the Volcano show, and technical problems halted the Siren's show at Treasure Island. Luckily, there's still lots of things to do and see.

Google "free shows in Las Vegas" and you'll find many things to do. Enjoy!

I recenlty moved to Las Vegas, April should be good for the pool. TI and Mirage has nice free shows outside, also at the Mirage they have the secrete garden which has tigers and dolphins. Mandaley Bay has the wave pool some of the hotels will allow non guests to pay a fee and use the pool they have. Mandeley Bay also has the Shark reef. If you can get to Silverton they have a HUGE auquarium and have divers go down and fee the sharks and other fish then they also have a mermaid show. Impirial Place has an old car show and if you go on thier web site you can get buy one get one free coupons for that. If you can rent a car for a day going to Lake Mead is nice, and one time when i was visiting i went to lake mead and rented Jet Ski's it was cheaper then the tours as 2 ppl could get on one Jet Ski.
