How bad is the drive? Keep in mind deserts are my favorite biome. Is it peaceful or trafficky across the mojave? Just wondering If I ever get enough money for that kind of thing

We just did this trip three days ago and will do it again to travel home. Saved several hundred dollars by flying into Vegas and driving. It's quite a trip and traffic can get congested at times. But it is doable. Took us close to 5 hours with the bad traffic. Not a lot to see unfortunately. It is desert, but not "pretty" desert...lol!

Leave early and you'll be fine. Leave late morning depending on day and you can expect long delays

Not so recent, but DH & I did it 8 years ago as I wanted to drive Route 66. It was awesome, although small portions of R 66 were hilly with tight lanes and I was a little nervous that someone would come around a corner over the line and hit us. I think avoiding rush hour into LA is the biggest issue.

Because of work I'm doing the LA > LV and back every week. It is quite peaceful across the Mojave.

Timing is everything. Leave early on a weekday and it is smooth, fast, driving. Leave after noon on a Friday, or early afternoon on a Sunday heading back to LA, it's going to be tough, busy, driving. Not the prettiest desert drive around, IMO, but peaceful enough.
