Would you go to Vegas in Dec? Does anyone know what the weather is during that time? Can you go swimming? We are looking into the Fairfield Grand Desert Resort. Any advice would be appreciated.

went in December NYE and stayed a week..it was in the high 70's..low 80's..the kids went swimming every day. Stayed at the Bellagio and Venetian.

Sorry never heard of your hotel..can't help ya but maybe someone else here can??

I have been to Vegas in December. This is what the weather was like while I was there.
The first day I needed my coat during the day. Yes I said my coat. The day temps were in the 40's with a cooler windchill. I remember seeing people running around at night wearing shorts and t-shirts freezing to death because they thought since Vegas is in the desert its always hot. They have had snow in Vegas. Not often but it can happen.

By the end of the week though I was wearing a t-shirt and pants during the day and jacket at night. I remember seeing some people laying out at the end of the week but no on e was in the pools. I have heard in the past some hotels close their pools. You might want to call your hotel and check and check if its heated.

Also many of the shows in Vegas were dark in December.

Now having said that I had a great time that week. Crowds were non existent. I think I had the whole hotel floor to myself all week. I saw no one and heard no one.

NYNY had a skating show in front. Many hotels had decorations inside. Sams town had tons of lights in its atrium. I believe the Bellagio has their fountains set to Christmas music.

Thanks for the responses! I really appreciate your help!

We had gone in November a couple of years ago and it was cold during the day and we needed our coats and chapstick. So, I think it will be cold during December.

My first trip to Vega$ was 2 weeks before Christmas back in 1998. (been back 2 times since then!)

It was very chilly....probably was in the high 60's most of the time, although being from Wisconsin, I'll take 60º in December any day. :p

It was also like a ghosttown....but I prefer than over masses of people,

I don't know anything about the resort you're thinking of staying at, but if you've not been to Vega$ before, I'd suggest staying on the Strip.....hotel prices in Dec should be quite cheap.

Have fun!

We are now planning a trip to Vegas in Dec. too. My DH and I have never been before so we're excited. I am trying to decide on a hotel, I thought the Mirage looked neat but also the Venetian and the Bellagio do too. We'll probably go Dec. 26-30. Any suggestions?

I hope it is warm enough to swim though, we'll see.

Also wanted to point out Death Valley national park is about 3 hours away. This would be the perfect time of the year to visit. It really is an awesome place.

All three are gorgious hotels !!! I love the Mirage the best only because I love the ambiance there, it just has such a cozy feel to me and I love their pool the most !! Bellagio and Venetian are gorgious also, but just seem "to much" for me.... like I said... it's all a presonal preference !! check out vegas.com for some great info !!! :teeth:

Thanks Pooohbear!
I think we might go with the Mirage. I signed up for email specials. Hopefully I will get a good rate. So far airfare from Baltimore would be about $590 for the both of us.

I'm getting excited! Plus this is the first trip we've taken without the kids in 21 years!!

I've been in Vegas over the time period before, and in fact will be again this year (Dec 26-28).

Most hotels in Vegas have outdoor pools, and most of them are shut down over the "winter" months. Somehow, coming from the Canadian prairies, "winter" in Vegas just isn't the same as "winter" here. I did find that a light jacket was needed in the evenings, as it does cool down a LOT. The first time I was there in December it was horribly windy the first day or so, and as a consequence was quite cool because of that.

As for the hotels you've mentioned, all 3 are fine hotels, which one is right for you depends on what you'd like. Are you a buffet person? The Venetian doesn't have one, the Bellagio's is one of the best in Vegas and the Mirage... well it has one. Last time I was there I'd rate it about a 6/10. I wouldn't rate their coffee shop much higher, but I understand their other restaurants are quite nice. Both the Bellagio and the Venetian are on the higher end of the luxury scale, and as a consequence have a number of very nice (and higher priced) restaurants. And shops.

Just another post about the chilly Vegas winter. We went right after new year's - we got GREAT rates! But the pools were closed and it was chilly at night. But we braved it to watch the water show at the Bellagio - fantastic!

We were there at Christmas. Were married there Christmas Day. I could not believe the number of people there at Christmas. We were late getting to the chapel because of the traffic on the strip. Don't bother renting a car. We were wearing sweatshirts or light jackets all day long. We stayed at the MGM and their pool was closed. We were there this spring at the MGM again and if I were to go back I would only stay at the Venetian or the Bellagio. The Venetian has all suites and the rooms look wonderful! I think it would be my first choice. The buffet at the Bellagio was terrific. Who else would have sea bass on a buffet? Try Paris for breakfast buffet. It was very good.

Christmas day was insane. I was there with DFi and his family, and we had decided to go to the Bellagio for the buffet for dinner. 4.5 hours in line, just for the buffet. And it wasn't that good to be honest, definitely not up to it's usual standards.

The Aladdin buffet is wonderful, and I'd rate it higher than the Bellagio buffet. Until Planet Hollywood really take over and they mess with it anyway.

The Paris buffet for breakfast is unreal. Absolutely fantastic.

The monorail, I understand, is closed until further notice after yet another incident of parts (screws I think) falling off. No plans for reopening in the immediate future.

Disneymomma needs a new pair of shoes!

Sorry, couldn't resist:jester:

The national rodeo finals are in LV in early December and the place will be PACKED!! I am not kidding.
