Compared to humid hot New England summers , how bad is Vegas in August?
Does it compare to August in Florida?

I actually find Vegas in August to be more bearable than Florida in August. Las Vegas has dry heat - it is hotter in degrees, but it is the humidity which really affects me, and there is none of that there. Also, 99% of the time I spend in Vegas is either inside an air-conditioned hotel/resort, or out by the pool.

The main change I make when I go to Vegas during the summer is that I skip the walking/bus riding I would normally do between the resorts and take advantage of driving (if not drinking) or taxis/monorail services.

I've gone to Vegas in August for my birthday a couple of times. I loved it:). Our family goes to Disney World every August and I spend a lot more time outside at Disney, so the heat is more of an issue (and not a huge one IMHO). I do enjoy walking on the Strip in the early morning in Vegas, before it gets too hot.

I agree that it is a drier heat so it feels different. I wouldn't hesitate to go there in August again. In fact, I am hoping to do so in about 4 years for my 50th birthday:).

ETA: I also live in New England:).

The Vegas heat sneaks up on you. Or it does on me? Since it is a dry heat, you don't sweat as much, and you don't realize just how hot you really are. If you are out walking take lots of breaks, and drink plenty of water.

We live in CT, went to Disney in August 08 and Vegas in August 09. I would prefer to stay in CT in August!

In Florida as soon as we walked out of our hotel room we were sweating. In Vegas, as soon as we walked out of our hotel room we were dying for water. The nice thing about Vegas though is everything is air conditioned so as you're walking by all the hotels, casinos and stores you get a blast of A/C! But, I would never go back to either place in August. I'll stay on my beach here :)

August.....heck I went in June and it was HORRIFIC. Thank goodness everything is air conditioned.....but I will say even the pool at our hotel was HOT! :headache:

We have been in both Feb and Dec....those are lovely months as far as weather goes. :goodvibes

Never going in the summer months ever again. :sad2:

Definitely a dry hot - I never understood what that mean til I was there in July/August. My parents live in Vegas so we go a lot... I lived in FL for 3yrs and I'd take Vegas heat over Fl heat (just my opinion!). Thankfully in both places everything is air conditioned!

I was in Las Vegas on business in August and it was 114 on the Hoover Dam. The next day, we did a helicopter ride with lunch in the Grand Canyon and it had cooled to 112 degrees.

It may be dry but 114 is still 114. I lived in New England for a few years and even with humidity, it never felt like 114.

To compare, put your oven on 450, let it heat, stick your head in. That's what it's going to feel like in Las Vegas in August.

Have been to Vegas in all summer months, and will also emphasize the word HOT. I once walked across a blacktopped area near our hotel, and my feet literally sank in it. One day in late July, it was 117. But as others have said, it is a dry heat. Much worse are the 99 degree with 99% humidity summer days we ger down here. I don't even go outside!

EXACTLY!

It is truly godawful--just like being in a convection oven. It may be dry, but it's just so darn hot and the heat doesn't break at night like Florida or New England. The overnight low is still over 90 degrees.

It's impossible to enjoy anything outside. Even sprinting from the valet stand to the casino door is awful. If you have a choice, stick to October - April.

I went for a week at the end of July one year. It was around 108 every day, dry heat or not, it was HOT. During the day it was only bearable to be outside if I was sitting in the pool.

we got married in vegas (august 1998) and have been going there every august ever since....

that "dry heat" description is a load of crap - it's HOT HOT HOT!!!!

don't be fooled - as a poster above mentioned, 112 is still 112

my DH just LOVES it there in august - me, ugh - i stay in the hotel room

with the A/C on....

have also gone to vegas several times in december - much much better!!!

will be back in vegas this coming august - again, as usual

I know I am biased because I have lived in Vegas for the past 5 years, but I think Vegas in August is more comfortable than Orlando in August. We went to Disneyworld last August and just about melted in the humidity everyday. Now don't get me wrong, Vegas is HOT! And yes it is a dry heat, but once it gets above aboujt 106 degress it doesn't matter. Definitately drink a lot of water and don't walk the strip in the afternoon. Our hottest time of the day is around 5:00. Have fun!

My brother went to Disney in August a few years ago and to Vegas in late July last year. He found both to be HOT!

My nephew got married in Las Vegas on July 30 several years ago. It was 116 degrees that day. Dry or not, it's HOT!!!! I went once on Labor Day it was only 100. Be prepared!

Here in Vegas we celebrate when it's 'only' 100 degrees out.:lmao: It's flippin hot and that's from someone who's lived here their entire life. I don't even take my kids outside in the summer. The up side of that is it's January and 54 degrees out right now. We wear shorts well into October. If you have the choice do April/May instead.:thumbsup2

I went to Las Vegas last summer when it was 110. I detest being hot, but I didn't find it unbearable. I was more comfortable in a dry heat than the humidity in Orlando.

Apparently, that's just me.

We went in September in 2008 and it was hot. It got close to 100 when we were there. It was dry dry heat so you definitely don't get as sticky as you would if you were in Florida but it's still very hot.

This past August was HOT!! Let's just say we spent a lot of time indoors!! sometimes only going out when the sun went down.....kinda like vampires!!

We were in Vegas in mid-July a few years ago. It was 115*. I did not sweat at all. It reminded me of standing right next to a bonfire.
