Vegas baby! Where to stay. Please help.

Just looked at New York, New York and it looks great. We also had a look at the Tropicana too. The rooms look great refurbished.

So many to pick from.:crazy2:

After thinking I knew where we were going to stay next year, I have ended up stumbling across and booking Tahiti Village Resort & Spa today.
http://www.tahitivillage.com/Tahiti-Village-Pool-Lazy-River.aspx

Expedia had a really good special on (40% off). The resort is not rated highly on Trip Advisor, but the suite we have booked ( the largest called The Royal Tahitian) is 1500 square feet, and the pool/lazy river looks awesome. I have read some of the negative reviews, and the things that people have complained about either don't concern me, or mean that at least we go knowing what to expect.

I very nearly booked the Tahiti Village - it looked like a really nice off-Strip option and that pool looked lovely. :thumbsup2 I think there were plenty of family dining options nearby to?

But, In the end we decided to stay on the Strip instead ( Venetian) as we've tickets to Cirque du Soleil - LOve and thought it was easier to walk there than get a cab. However I'll be very interested to hear what you think of Tahiti Village - if we ever go back to Vegas we'll probably try off-strip next time :)

wow that looks beautiful. we were also contemplating a stay there (me & my sis were fans of the spa) but we ended up in our on-strip location instead.

that pool / lazy river does look deluxe though :) and what a lovely suite :)

I have stayed at the bellagio and would pick it again next time. The Venetian is also a great option. I would def stay on the strip. When I went I fount that things look a lot closer than they are. I ended up taking a cab to some of the hotels because they were so far away, but then again it was summer so it could have been the heat.

We stayed at the palazzo twice and althought it's dear, it is fantastic. Across the road from shopping center, and pretty close to everything else. IMHO the luxor is way too far off the main strip casinos.

I wouldn't stay off strip unless budget is the main concern.

Caesars is also awesome and in a great location. Depends on what deals you can get for your stay as well, as the price between say Luxor and Ceasars/Palazzo can be very steep.

Right behind The Tropicana and Hooters is a place called The Desert Rose Resort. It has one and two bedrooms and is usually reasonable. It serves a decent free breakfast, a pool and jacuzzi. It has a laundry room. It also has a place to Barbeque. The kitchen if fully stocked. It is very quiet and family friendly. The living area has a sofa bed as well.

I went to see love in 2010 and yes I wouldn't have a problem taking my kids. We did however take them to the lion king instead as they had matinee times on sat/ sun but not love at the time ( it started at 930pm from memory and we were worries about them falling asleep). It's a wonderful show, great music, story and of course All the cirque have to offer visually too. It's performed in the round.

We have visited LV many times (including last year when we renewed our wedding vows with Elvis - thanks DH). We prefer to stay in a different hotel each trip and on several trips when we have gone onto other states and then returned to LV we stayed in another different hotel then too!

We have stayed at Luxor (my fav) and Excalibur (absolute hate this one - way too smoky EVERYWHERE but has Tournament of Kings live show which is worth a single visit, stay clear of the Fun Faire in the basement - understaffed and old and tired) both several times. We have also stayed at Rio Suites (off strip but is affiliated with Paris and Ballys so has a shuttle to strip and an awesome "World Buffet"), Tropicana (same corner as Excalibur, NYNY and MGM), Sahara (gone now and at cheapest end of strip, was great for travelling further out of LV on day trips), Stratosphere (fantastic attractions at the top for the thrill seekers but very costly - find coupons for rides, rooms very cheap), Circus Circus (stay away from here, cheap and old rooms, great adventure dome and terrible garden buffet), Imperial (fantastic mid strip location, short driveway/less walking, clean tidy rooms, boring pool area, cheap), Flamingo (lovely decent priced buffet with lots of seafood and variety of other foods, mid strip perfect location, found good price on online discount company), Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood, has great shopping, good array of food choices and spacious pool area),NYNY (we love the coaster and more importantly Krispy Kremes in the food court-lol), Caesars Palace (pricey on Fri/SAt/Sun but great location, fantastic high end shopping - save your $$ for the outlet place near the airport), MGM (spacious rooms, average restaurants, big casino floor with great selections) and I think that's all we've stayed at...

I would like to stay at Monte Carlo or Paris next - I have budget taste! However I don't even have a US trip planned right now (DH is going staying at the Luxor in January and then going to DL with his friends - OMGosh!)

We walked everywhere up and down the strip. The Aladdin (Now Planet Hollywood), Paris or the Belaggio would all be great centrally located hotels. With the monorail now running, you won't have to walk as much, but I would still recommend central strip.

Hubby likes the sound and look of NY NY. Im still not sure.

Lion king is on at Mandalay bay casino. It was wonderful and the kids loved it. It's also a taste of Disney too!

If you like the circus stuff all the cirque de Soleils are good except 'o' as its adult themed.

I was really keen to go to the Lion King next year. But apparently it is no longer showing in Las Vegas

News travels slow down my way. Sorry about that...

O is not adult themed. The adult themed one is Zummanity at NY NY, it's got an age minimum, due to the semi-nude acts.

O is absolutely amazing, water themed, I think kids would like it. Le Reve at the Wynn is a blatant O rip off with a more adult theme, misogynistic lapsed Catholic imagery, I found it really tedious, but the people I went with hadn't seen O and were dazzled by the production with the water. About the only thing in it's favour is it's a much smaller theatre. (Le Reve is not a Cirque du Soleil show, it's a copy)

Mystere is the easiest Cirque show to get cheaper tickets for, they often hand out vouchers outside Treasure Island. I think that would wow most kids if they hadn't seen anything like it before.

I think most of the Cirque shows are about 2hr of performance plus a 30min intermission in the middle. I think that applies to most shows that are in the $100+ ticket bracket. Shorter shows are usually cheaper, though I remember going to some stuffy version of Riverdance/Lord of the Dance/some Irish dance show (stuffy as in minimal air-con stuffy) that seemed to go on for hours and hours and hours..... I find most Cirque shows feel like they are over much too soon :)

Thanks cola. That makes it 2/2 mistakes about Las Vegas shows. I shall withdraw quietly now......

it's really hard to suggest a hotel without more info from you. what is your budget, how do you like your hotels (i.e., luxury or basic), what are your plans while in vegas? right now, all you're going to get from people are opinions. there are just too many hotels to consider to get a broad answer like that.

i didn't read everyone's replies, but i thought i would mention a couple things. first, always factor in the resort fee in your nightly rate. the resort fee will vary, but there is no resort fee at CET hotels (i.e., paris, planet hollywood). second, i highly suggest vegas message board. i've been a member there for a couple of years, and everyone there is really nice and well informed.

i've stayed at the following hotels in the past 7 trips (in order of my preference):
bally's
paris
mgm (would stay here again if they got rid of resort fee)
monte carlo (would not stay here again)
luxor (would not stay here again)

good luck! :hippie:
