Vegas baby! Where to stay. Please help.

I like to stay on the strip---I love the Palazzo and Venetian. I'm taking my sister to the Venetian at the end of September for a long weekend for her birthday! The spa at the Palazzo/Venetian is simply fantastic!!

We've stayed at Paris and The Excalibur. loved Paris, not too keen on The Excalibur. We've booked the Venetian for our upcoming trip, it gets such good reviews :goodvibes

I'd love to stay at the Venetian, but too exy. I got a good deal at the Tropicana, I'll let you know how it goes!

we stayed at tropicana and loved it!!! it was amazing. nice little casino, not full of smoke (we're not smokers or big gamblers so it suited us nicely) and the onsite food options were really lovely.

we walked up to ceasars for serendipity 3 (make sure you go there for the desserts.. exxy, but so totally delish) and to the shops and to paris, mgm, venetian etc. we also saw the free show at TI with the Sirens of TI. totally a lame show with showgirls performing as 'pirates' but still a cheesy show memory we have of vegas :)

we would recommend tropicana in a heartbeat. it was like $8 in a cab to get from tropicana up to venetian.. and there is a dennys just opposite the mirage, which is where we ate dinner one night, overlooking the mirage volcano.

would have loved to have stayed at the venetian, but out of our price range :(

Haven't been yet but we're staying at Paris. I chose it for its mid-strip location and my kids will think it's pretty cool to stay at a hotel with an Eiffel Tower. Some reviews on tripadvisor aren't that great but we're only staying there one night and it wasn't too expensive so we'll survive.

we are staying at Luxor in october......bargain at $50 a night....we are only in vegas for 24 hrs, so if its not too good we dont have to tolerate it for long.

i also have stayed at TI (awesome for $70 pn ) and excalibur (enjoyable for $35 a night)

depends on what you are looking for......and half the fun is discovering a new favourite hotel..ahhh, the joys of travel:cheer2:

We stayed at the Venetian and LOVE LOVE LOVED it. It's pricey but I ended up finding a great deal online so that made it worthwhile. It truly is a beautiful hotel.

Oh boy!! There are so many! I'm staying at the Flamingo - great location (mid-Strip) and good price for a reasonable room. This is my 3rd stay at Flamingo. Also stayed at Treasure Island which was nice but the room was really small compared to Flamingo. Have stayed at Luxor as well in a Pyramid room which I really liked. It was a bit far from the mid-Strip for my liking though.
I would love to stay at Bellagio but I'm afraid that I need a lotto win for that..!!! Although I have heard of people getting bargains there - timing is everything!
Good luck and have fun researching! :surfweb:

Hotwire a mystery booking :yay:

Leave it in the laps of The Gods

Bargains to be had on there ;)

We have stayed at MGM before, it's huge but in the middle of the strip.
This time we are staying at the Four Seasons, so even though it's down one end I am hoping it's nice. Got a great deal.

You will not spend much time in your room, so to a certain extent, it doesn't really matter. If you go Sun-Thurs the rates anywhere are MUCH cheaper than Fri-Sat, you can find any of the expensive places very cheaply Sun-Thurs and very expensive Fri-Sat.

If you're after something cheap and central. Travelodge Las Vegas Center Strip, it's small, won't get lost, no casino. Similar quality room to Excalibur. Unless you want to stay somewhere with a Vegas pool scene, or ridiculously expensive room service, staying at one of the mega casinos doesn't give you any extra privileges, other than maybe on site night club entry fast pass type thing (sometimes). If you stay at the Venetian/Bellagio/etc, you will probably spend as much time in the Venetian/Bellagio/etc awake whether you are staying there or not, because you will be spending so much time out and about checking out the other mega-casinos. If you stay off the Strip (Palms/Hard Rock/south Strip resorts, you might spend more time where you are staying due to the logistics of getting anywhere.

Have stayed previously at both Caesars Palace and the Luxor. Caesars is huge........we actually got lost once trying to find our way back to the room! The room me had was divine with a huge spa bath big enough for 4 people!

The Luxor was good if you are looking for something a little cheaper! It's in a great spot though........not too far from the M&M's shop!!!

I have to agree with others though in the fact that staying somewhere different is half the fun!!! I am hoping for the Bellagio next trip ( if I'm good:) )!!!

I have 2 kids and have a allergy to gluten ( wheat) I think staying near the strip near the big casinos would be great. I'm hoping they have gluten free food. :scared1:

Is the food prices at restaurants $$$$ at the big casinos? I might have to do a few sit down meal to get GF meals. .

How did you find the food costs? Did you see any supermarkets? If we stay at a hotel with a kitchen do they charge much for parking? I know at Anaheim they charge a bit to park you car there.

as we have only stayed at the tropicana, i can only speak to our experience there... we didn't have a car, so no issues with parking, but from memory the parking was included in the 'resort fee'. there are supermarkets (not huge like costco or walgreens, but local ABC markets with a good variety of things) very nearby, and there are a few within the shopping centres on the strip. in the hotel, there was a local mini mart which we used for breakfast goods (fresh milk in the mornings, cereal, juice, fresh fruit etc). prices seemed remarkably cheap, and there was a larger market approx 4 mins walk up next to mgm resort that had more things like fresh sandwiches, fruit salads & vegetables pre cut (like baby carrot, celery, ranch dip etc) plus lots of staples like bagels and bread (maybe not so much for you being GF) but lots of fresh produce. they also had the usual drinks, plus alcohol, so you can save some money if you want some 'grown up' drinks but don't want to pay the price.

i am still kicking myself for not buying bourbon in vegas for my dad & bringing it back duty free. i have never seen alcohol that cheap before.

anywho...

in the tropicana there were a few places to eat.. there was a pizzeria which did have GF pizzas and calzones and pastas etc, there was a restaurant which was open for lunch/dinner. as we didn't usually feel like dressing up much, we just ordered our dinner at the bar from the restaurant menu 'to go' and then ate in our room, watching tv, surfing the internet, reading the kindle etc.

carlo is vegetarian, and there was a lot of variety for vegetarian + vegan + gluten free at the restaurant.

there was another more upscale restaurant/steakhouse inside the hotel too.. one called baccio (italian cuisine), another biscayne (south beach cuisine & steakhouse), but we didn't eat there. there was also an icecream/frozen yoghurt/smoothie healthy options bar inside the tropicana as well (called the naked spoon). we found the prices pretty reasonable, however if you want to check for yourself, their menus are available on the website: www.troplv.com

it seems they have since expanded their 'ready to eat' options and there is now a starbucks on site.

if you are travelling to vegas with your DD and DS, the tropicana is pretty tame compared to most of the other, mega casinos. there is no smoking inside, it's been recently renovated, there are no 'showgirls' running around the casino floor, the casino on the main floor is quite small and so doesn't attract the drunk & unruly crowd, and there is a comedy club onsite for entertainment, plus family friendly entertainment nearby like the lion enclosure at mgm grand, david copperfield at mgm grand, the m&ms shop on the way up the strip, the flamingo exhibit at the flamingo, the bellagio fountains, the exploding volcano at the mirage, the indoor rainshower at the miracle mile shops, the chocolate fountain inside the bellagio, the glass flower ceiling inside the bellagio etc.

hope some of this is helpful :)

if walking around at night, there are those hustlers that will try and shove pamphlets in your hands, regardless of whether you are with your DH or kids. i would therefore recommend either taking a cab to avoid this if your kids are coming with you, or only walking the strip by day where they are much, much less prevalent.

We took our 3 kids in 2010. Stayed at new York new York. About as kid friendly as you can get for the strip ( good pool, roller coaster, amusement arcade). We found all the hotels and places did have a good range of gluten free ( 2/3 of our kids are gf) and no you don't have to go to the expensive restaurants to find good gf meals)

After thinking I knew where we were going to stay next year, I have ended up stumbling across and booking Tahiti Village Resort & Spa today.
http://www.tahitivillage.com/Tahiti-Village-Pool-Lazy-River.aspx

Expedia had a really good special on (40% off). The resort is not rated highly on Trip Advisor, but the suite we have booked ( the largest called The Royal Tahitian) is 1500 square feet, and the pool/lazy river looks awesome. I have read some of the negative reviews, and the things that people have complained about either don't concern me, or mean that at least we go knowing what to expect.
