Vegan WDW Dining: December 2011

From what my mom has experienced some restaurants in Disney World are more accommodating than others and you never really know what you're going to get.

Yup. I think a lot depends on the chef you get, too. I know Chef TJ is AMAZING, so I was trying to get him when I made my reservation at 1900 Park Fare, but it didn't pan out. Whomp.

Thank you so much for this TR on your dining. I can't eat dairy, egg and beef, so it's nice to see the options out there.

Also, the table next to us was a group of four folks, probably in their 40s (but I’m awful at guessing ages), who looked like capital-L Lesbians. They were pretty amusing and were having a good time and it was nice to see some level of queerness in WDW that wasn’t coming from us.

:rotfl2:Enjoying your reviews and had to say how much this line made me crack up! My sister is also a lesbian and is always "scouting" in restaurants. Unfortunately for her where we live it's not too plentiful! Back to reading!

Sounds like most places really go out of their way to make sure that people who eat a vegan diet have options. We are mostly vegetarian and of course that makes it a lot easier on us. I've noticed now all restaurants have at least one vegetarian option. We really enjoyed the Tusker House buffet on our last visit; it sounds like lunch and dinner there might also offer some good vegan selections. I'm surprised you didn't like Tangierene Cafe or Sunshine Seasons; those are our two favorite counter service places for vegetarian meals! Just goes to show everyone has different taste preferences!

I know, right? I think so much depends on when you go (We went to Sunshine Seasons when it opened and I think Tangierine Cafe was pretty late at night.).

I'm curious to see how I do at Be Our Guest and Whispering Canyon this December, since they both have things that look vegan on their menus.

Thanks for the reviews!

As a DVC member, premium passholder, etc. I go to Disney A LOT.

Dining has always been a challenge because I have celiac and therefore cannot eat gluten.

About three months ago, I became a vegan on top of that.

I have a trip planned around Christmas and I'm nervous about trying to eat there gluten free AND vegan.

I'm wondering if the deluxe dining plan is even going to be worth it. Will I be living off salads and stir frys? I hope not.

Anyone with thoughts or experience on this?

I'm willing to bend slightly with the dairy but absolutely no meat.:crazy2::scared::scared:

I think there is a special form you can get from Special Diets that might help. You fill it out beforehand. I know it's supposed to be more detailed.

The other thing you could do is try to call the restaurant a week or so before your trip and talk to the chef. I've heard folks have really great luck doing this. I didn't have good luck (I called 1900 Park Fare and they said that I couldn't talk to a chef and they'd just deal with me on the day.), but most of my meals worked out well. If you do that, I'd also call a day or two before if you arranged a special menu with the chef.

Like you said, you are willing to be a little flexible. I say, go ahead and call around if you're worried, but just take it a meal at a time and try to relax.

I hope you will write a review of Be Our Guest. That is so exciting that you get to go check it out! I hope our next trip won't be as far off as I think it might.::yes::
