Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

We ate there last year. While there's not much on the menu the chef came out and said they'd make whatever we wanted. Ended up with pasta primavera and a soy blackberry vanilla milkshake.

Awesome! Is this a place where we would need a reservation (week after Christmas) or is it a walk-in? We've never been there and I'd love to give it a try!

Not sure. I've only been that once, but we had a reservations and there was a looooooong line for walk-ins that I was glad we weren't waiting in. It was over an hour wait, I think. That was in May 2013 tho, I'm not sure about the end of Dec.

Thanks, I made reservations. Better safe than sorry!

I have a question about the veggie burgers (& black bean burgers) available in the parks. I have a strong aversion to strong onion flavor and large chunks of onion. Do the veggie burgers have the strong onion flavor? Are they a kind of veggie burger that is available in grocery stores, so I can pre-taste them? Does anybody have recommendations for which sandwiches I should avoid or definitely order?

Meat is my only restriction. Eggs, dairy and grains are all fine for me.

I believe that the basic veggie patty is the Gardenburger Malibu patty. It has chunks of veggies in it, and the ingredient list does show onion. I've never noticed a big onion flavor, but then I'm not adverse to onion. I really like the patty.

When I have found (generally by accident) a black bean patty, it's just all cumin-flavor all the time to me.

Hi all! I could use some help! Just found out my DS best friend is a vegetarian. He is coming with us in June for both his and my DS HS graduation trip. I have never had to consider vegetarian options. We will be at ASMu. Going to DTD, AK, & MK. Plan on 'OHana the 1st night. Are there veggie options everywhere? Do we skip Flame Tree BBQ? I want him to feel comfortable, so I need to have my game plan down before we go. Thanks for the help!:goodvibes

You will find veggie options at most places in WDW, if not everywhere. WDW is pretty good about that. I feel like it's a little easier to find veggie options at table-service places because when you make the ADR there is a place to select certain kinds of dietary preferences (for vegetarian/vegan, you can click the "Other" box). If you click on any dietary preference, a chef will come and talk to you after you are seated.

Personally, I haven't been to Flame Tree BBQ yet because I didn't see anything on the menu that looked appealing (a fruit plate doesn't sound too much like a filling meal to me - someone correct me if my assumptions are wrong :) ).

If you go to Allears.net, you can look at the quick-service dining menus to plan ahead and see what quick-service options are available. At AK, there are a couple vegetarian food carts (on the way from Africa to Asia). Pizzafari has a veggie pizza (and I've even heard you may be able to request vegan cheese). They also have breadsticks with marinara as a side item that I usually get as a meal. MK has a veggie burger and a veggie sandwich at Cosmic Ray's, and Pecos Bill has a veggie burger, but my favorite is the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbour House.

Hope this helps - let us know if you have any other questions!

Has anyone been to Teppan Edo as a gluten-free vegetarian? I'm trying to choose a dinner spot for our Epcot day. Can the tempura be made gluten free? Are we just going to be served rice and vegetables? I'm trying to decide between TE and Rose and Crown.

Thank you! It looks like 'Ohana, Boma, & WCC will work out great for all of us. I think Columbia House will be our lunch choice at MK. Perhaps Yak &; Yeti CS for AK? Seems they can make most meals just veggie. We usually do WP express at DTD. They have pasta & pizza options.

You're welcome! Those are great choices. Yak & Yeti does indeed have a vegetarian option (walked passed it on Wednesday). :)

I've had no luck getting an Ohana reservation for our upcoming trip. It isn't too big a deal, because there are so many other options, but I'm having a hard time narrowing it down! We will be at AK, so we can go to any resort. We are staying in the Boardwalk area, though, so a restaurant in that area would be great. But we can really go anywhere, since we can just take a bus back to one of the parks and walk back or bus back from there. We are also open to Downtown Disney.

I'm vegan and gluten-free, and DD is allergic to shellfish (and other things, but those do not limit us as much- my restrictions are much more limiting). We used to LOVE Kouzzina's, but it is gone now, so I don't know where to go!

I had thought maybe Whispering Canyon would be fun for the kids, but would I be able to eat anything there? Is there somewhere else I should consider that would be able to accommodate me?

I've had a vegan meal at Whispering Canyon - quite a few years ago now, and I don't remember the details, but it was fine. I just looked at the posted menus on another site and they indicated they had a quinoa cake entree.

I am a vegetarian, one dd is gluten free and one is shellfish/peanut allergic. We had a fabulous dinner at Flying Fish. The chef came out and was willing to make me anything I wanted. Wound up with a sampler of 4 different things-sooo good. We have also eaten at Narcosses, Kona, and California Grill too and had great meals.

DD just got back from 15 days at WDW...

lots of good food during their free dining..

one place that didn't come up to previous experinces was sci fi..

she said it seemed to her that they were serving a different veggie burger than she's had there in the past (and they usually eat there at least 3 times each trip or more)..

the new veggie burger is very spicy (for her anyway, she has a very low tolerance for spice)...
she said this one is the one made with beans...
she encountered two types on this trip, one seemingly based mostly on beans and one made mostly of vegetables (like the one at cosmic ray, which was very tasty to her)..

anyway, to her it seemed as if they'd changed the veggie burger at sci fi..

and they also changed the pasta dish...there used to be a pasta dish that you could order vegetarian that she really loved....that one is no longer on the menu (they've replaced it with something else)...

Well we got back from our vacation a few days ago so I thought back on some of our meals since I won't have time to do a whole dining report. I and DS 20 months are vegetarian and DH is an omnivore.

The Good

- Two desserts at Be Our Guest are vegetarian and contain no gelatin! I was happy to find this out. They are the lemon meringue cupcake (probably because there is no icing, just meringue on the top) and the lemon raspberry cream puff is also vegetarian that is gluten free and no sugar added as well. I also enjoyed the soups there although salty. For dinner I enjoyed the salad trio and got a side of the mac and cheese that comes with one of the other entrees. It was yummy!

- Biergarten - We enjoyed the food at Biergarten and found most of the sides meat free so there was plenty of selection of things to eat!

- Sunshine Seasons - DS LOVED the vegan beef entrée here! I got it twice on different days since he loved sharing it so much. He normally does not like things with a meatier texture but he loved the vegan beef. I got it with veggie noodles instead of rice since he enjoyed those as well.

- Mama Melrose for Fantasmic worked out great since they were very accommodating for vegetarians. They have a new butternut squash pasta dish on the menu that is vegetarian and delicious and is able to be made vegan (they served me the vegan one). All the desserts that are on the Fantasmic tray, however, were said to contain gelatin so I was given gelato instead. They seemed flexible if you need vegan options for this as well.

- Boma! Enough said.

- Kona Café - It was our first breakfast here and I really enjoyed it! I had the fruit plate which is served with a TON of fruit beautifully arranged in a half pineapple and spills over the plate with banana bread. DS loved sharing this one with me as well.

- Beaches n Cream - Although this makes the good and bad side of my list, for DS this was probably one of his favorite meals. It was the one of the only child meals we ordered for him and we got him the child's macaroni and cheese and they easily replaced the veggies with fruit. He LOVED this mac and cheese and fruit and I could not believe how much he ate of it! I loved that it did not look like the bright orange stuff served elsewhere but actually looked more homemade.

- Chesire Cat Café - the Gourmet Cake Cups are vegetarian and contain no gelatin! I did not notice any when looking through the binder. You don't want to know all the other stuff they contain though.... but I guess there is a lot of stuff we normally don't eat in most Disney fast foods!

The Not as Good or Disappointing

- Crystal Palace breakfast - Although we all enjoyed seeing the characters the food was lacking in the vegetarian department, especially if you enjoy savory items more than sweet items for breakfast as I do. I am not a big egg eater either but if you are they do have a variety of vegetarian omelet fixings that they will create for you.

- Beaches n Cream - Took longer than 'fancier' sit down places here and DS got quite antsy. Was disappointed that one of the two options that appear vegetarian is not (the soup served with the grilled cheese contains chicken broth they told me). They were willing to replace with fries but I was not in the mood for that. I went with the falafel instead which was okay but dry. We all enjoyed the ice cream of course!

- Wolfgang Puck Café - I was disappointed that the butternut squash soup on the menu contains chicken broth. :( Was really hoping to enjoy this! The beet salad was nice, though.

Overall it was nice since DS either ate from the buffet or shared with me and I found the portions large enough to do so easily. I also brought some snacks with us each day for him and some fresh fruit to supplement his meals with in case he did not enjoy the food.

Well that's terrific to know.

When they say no sugar added, does that mean it's sweetened with things like fruit or dates, or that they use artificial sweeteners?

What types of sides did they have that were vegetarian? I'm considering this one for our next trip, as I think we'd all enjoy the entertainment, but we'll have two adults, a 6yo, and a 2yo who are vegetarian (along with two omnivore adults).

We also enjoyed the vegan beef tips at sunshine seasons. Not vegan, but I really enjoyed the Brie and Apple sandwich at les Halles and my husband and daughter liked the tartine.

Boma and Sanaa were both great.

My husband gives a thumbs down to the veggie burger at trex though.

I was pleasantly surprised by the dinner at Akershus. Found plenty to eat and the butternut squash ravioli was tasty. My daughter did not like the kids Mac and cheese there though.

Kind of neutral on mama melrose and BOG lunch. Breakfast buffets at 1900 and boma were both decent for us.

I did not ask about that but it's just how it is listed on the menu. I didn't try that one, I just tried the lemon meringue cupcake which was okay, not bad.

There was a lot of variety since I tried to take a tiny scoop of most of the vegetarian things on the first round to see what I liked best and my plate was full!

I know there were a variety of salads with a variety of vegetables, pretzel rolls which were yummy, some hot dishes such as baked mac and cheese (very good and looked very homemade), hot vegetables (some were roasted with squash I believe), spaetzel (it was vegetarian since the gravy was separate). There was also a cheese board with a variety of cheeses and dried fruit toppings and there was fresh fruit in the dessert area.

I didn't mention this earlier but I thought to now that I'm glad I asked about gelatin in the desserts since what usually happened was that the dessert that looked 'safe' to me actually had gelatin and the ones I was planning to avoid were gelatin free! This was the case here and at other places too.
