Vegan Birthday Cake?!?!

We are planning a trip for the Jan 08 marathon which will also be pretty close to DD's 5th birthday. I'm flirting with the idea of ordering a cake for her. My DH is vegan, however, so in order for him to partake the cake would have to be eggless and dairyless (it is possible, I've made them myself and there are professional bakeries who make them and some that specialize in them).

Has anyone ever ordered a vegan cake from any of the disney bakeries? Or am I better off going with the cupcake/brownie option for DD and let DH fend for himself? I know she would be thrilled by a special cake, but I feel kind of guilty ordering a big cake that only DDs and I would eat (even though DH would say he didn't mind). Plus...that would be a lot of cake for me and a 5yo and 1yo to eat...and we would HAVE to finish it

I have not, but I bet they would make it for you. My DD has a dairy and egg allergy so I am very familar with the challenges in baked goods. They do use egg replacer on-site as well as soy and rice milks.

They are making DD dairy and egg free waffles or pancakes on our upcoming trip!

You can e-mail WDW.MK.Special.Diets at disneydotcom to ask about this. They are very helpful and very quick to answer. You can also request a list of vegan foods (like the popcorn is vegan! yep, no dairy in the fake butter they put on it).

Op, you said that you would like to have a vegan cake to accomodate your dh tastes. Do you think your children will enjoy that? If so, just call where you are having dinner. They will direct you with what they can come up with. If not, if you have a car. You can always pick up the cake at one of these places they make it, you mentioned, and hand bring it into the resteraunt, for them to store it until you wanted it. I would have no idea. One other idea, if you are worried about to much cake. Buy the castle cake. For your DD. You, and your baby could get a lil bite. And that would take care of the large cake. No waste.

I imagine her and her children are used the the taste of vegan baked goods. I know my DH and I are since our dd is allergic to dairy and eggs. The cakes aren't bad actually. Its much easier to have one cake than worrying about multiple.

I do agree though, if your dd doesn't care for vegan cakes then it should be what she wants. If she doesn't know the difference, I'd say go for one cake.

DD eats vegan baked goods all the time and has never indicated that she can even tell the difference. We are very lucky to have an excellent vegan bakery near-by, and I have gotten really good at "vegan-izing" traditional recipes. DH NEVER complains when we get non-vegan food, but I like to include him when we can. Especially since he is the big eater in the family.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I wil try the contact info you provided, and if it looks too sketchy I think we'll go with the small cake one of you suggested, just for DD.

Wow, people are really quick to judge on this board sometimes. My DD isn't vegan, but raising a child vegan is not child abuse if it is done thoughtfully. My husband is an adult, and a healthy marathon runner. He chooses to eat a vegan diet and never complains when we eat ice cream or cupcakes in front of him, but I like to include him in celebrations when I can.

I'd say try to get the vegan birthday cake if you can! I'm sure that there is somewhere in WDW that would sell them, it seems like they want to make everybody feel welcome and are very accomidating!

You know, this board has a lot of information but it seems to me that you would be better off contacting Disney's culinary services team about this. Disney Dining can provide you with the phone number for the culinary team that provides birthday cakes for the restaurant where you will be dining for your DD's birthday. Just ask them.
