My daughter is about 95% vegan. I am wondering any advice particularily for quick counter service meals.
Thanks

Deb has a section on vegetarian dining on allearsnet and has it broken down by counter service and table service.

Hi! :yay: Vegan here! QS wise most places have veggie burgers and fries, fruit and veggies (even Columbia Harbour House has steamed broccoli), but Peco's and Cosmic's both have a great topping bar. Park-wise, Epcot's my favorite with bean tacos, etc. in Mexico, platter in Morocco (although most of the salads have dairy) and Sunshine Seasons with too many options to list. Animal Kingdom is my least favorite with the fewest options, ironic huh? :rotfl: I believe Restaurantosaurus just switched to a veggie sandwich with sweet potato fries over the veggie burger and that's basically the only QS option in AK, although I have heard great things about the TS Yak and Yeti and Tusker House (if you can put up with a character buffet!) Like I hinted, you'll have much better luck at TS and sigs, but QS are good, too.

Oh, and as a major tip, make sure to stay away from the rice krispy treats, oreo bon bons, zebra domes and key lime parfaits which have gelatin. And the dole whips are not vegan. :mad:But I think you'll have great luck. It's really one of the best places to vacation if you're a vegan!

MK - Columbia Harbour House has a vegetarian sandwich that can be made vegan if you request they make it without the slaw.

DHS - Backlot Studios - also has a vegetarian sandwich that can be vegan.

Epcot - Sunshine Seasons, the Moroccon CS are both great vegetarian/vegan options.

AK - nothing great

DTD - Wolfgang Puck Express

Also, at buffets and table service restaurants you can request a vegan option to be made for you if you call the week before, speak with a chef and request it. They will order tofu to be in the kitchen for your adr if they don't already have it on hand for a regular menu item. The one and only place that refused to do this was Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner, my sister was told to just eat the vegetables. She left there hungry and ended up getting a veggie burger afterward.

If you do not want to call ahead, the chef will at least come to your table and tell you what on the menu is or can be made vegan and will walk you through the buffet line.

Dessert anywhere will be mostly fruit or sorbet options. There are some fruit shakes I think that you can get and I know they can make some shakes with soy or rice milk ice cream at table service restaurants but you will have to ask for it.

There is no need to eat just plain salads or veggie burgers for the whole trip as long as you plan ahead.

As far as AK goes I have a few suggestions..

Flame Tree BBQ has a really great fruit plate, btw. Obviously, the yogurt they serve is not vegan, but you can either ask them to hold the yogurt or maybe someone else in your party might enjoy it. It was a vanilla honey yogurt if I remember right and my son loved it. The fruit was very fresh and plentiful. Definitely something I enjoyed and would be great on a warm (hot) day.

I did try the veggie sub from Restaurantosaurus and thought it was quite good. The veggies were grilled and it was a nice change from a veggie burger. I will point out that there is cheese served on the sandwich, so your daughter might want to hold the cheese. The toppings bar is also good, it's nice to be able to add some fresh tomatoes or lettuce to the sandwich.

I will note that I am a ovo-lacto vegetarian, so I wasn't paying a lot of attention to buns served with the sandwiches and/or veggie burgers, but I do know you can request them at the time you place your order.

Sunshine Seasons is my favorite CS in Epcot. The tofu noodle bowl is probably something I could/would easily eat at least once a week forever. :) Every time I try to branch out and try other veggie options I actually regret not ordering the noodle bowl.

There is a vegan/vegetarian thread here on this forum that might be helpful to read through. And plenty of nice people to help answer any questions you might have.
