VEA Shuttle Questions

Ok, got a couple of questions about the VEA shuttle for our upcoming trip (4-7th Dec).

We are flying to Orly with Thompsonfly, have never flew with them before or to Orly. Has anyone else? It says on the VEA website the buses go from South Bus station and West. Does anyone know which one will be easiest to get to?

Also on way back we are going to CDG, our flight is and 10.25 so it opens at 08.25 and closes 09.25.

The earliest VEA is 8.05 (from Hol Inn), is this pushing it to get there on time? I think the bus goes to a few other hotels then T1 and 2 before our destination - T3. I'm worried we wont have enough time? If we get the train is there an easy way to get to T3 (i believe i read the train only goes to the other 2 terminals?) Also if you were getting the train, what time would you leave to get there for 8.30 ish?

Thanks!!

Hmmmm...!! :scratchin

The Orly bit is easier. Just catch the shuttle from whichever terminal you land at - the bus stations are just outside each terminal. They go hourly - at half past the hour from Orly South and ten minutes later from Orly West.

The VEA is pushing it and, unfortunately, so would the TGV - though not quite so much!! With the TGV, you would arrive at CDG about 8.20 and then you would have to get the airport shuttle over to T3 which will take at least 20 minutes.

How many in your party? I think departure day would be a good time to treat yourself to a private shuttle. :)

Becky offers good advice. The last time we took the TGV, the train was delayed 45 minutes. For an early flight, I would take a private shuttle or taxi.

Roughly, what does a private transfer cost and how do you arrange one?

About 70 to 80 euros one way, for up to four people - then they tend go up about 10 euros for each extra person! There are lots of shuttle companies listed in this thread - scroll down to the end of the post :)

Thank you, I'll check it out.

Will the transfer service meet you with your name on a sign?

RS Transport definitely does, according to the reviews of them on this board. We are also using them next week :Pinkbounc

I'd expect any private shuttle company will announce themselves with a sign with the passengers name on it :thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice everyone, :thumbsup2 I had almost decided on the TGV before reading the post where it was delayed!! I would defo miss my flight if it was delayed!! :scared1: There are only 2 in the party.. I will definatley consider a private shuttle/taxi. Looks like the way to go, bit less stressful. :) How much would the TGV cost just so i can compare? And persuade the BF its worth the cost! :Pinkbounc:Pinkbounc:Pinkbounc

Because they're are only two of you, the private shuttle obviously isn't very cost effective. The TGV would currently cost you £22, but if you wait a few more days it could go up to at least £42!! ;)

It would also involve you having to get the bus from the HI to the station, get down to the platform, get on the train to the airport, then go up two or three levels to wait for the airport shuttle, (probably) strap hang on the shuttle for 10 - 15 minutes and then lug your bags several hundred yards to the Departures door of Terminal 3!!!!

At that time of the morning, a door to door car would be much more civillised! ;)

Hi Bexx,
Thanks for the info, very helpful as usual! :thumbsup2 Still a bit undecided, trying to make this trip as cheap as poss but obv don't wna risk missing the flight!
I went on the rail europe website through your very useful information thread, £22 isn't bad for 2 people is it. I wouldnt wna pay any more though so i'll have to decide quick in case it goes up! As i was going through the options and selecting the tickets it said 2 tickets for ages between 26-59. I couldn't see a way of changing this as im under 26! Does this mean its cheaper do you know?

I'm afraid I don't know how to find out anything about the different prices for different ages.

But I've thought of another option!! If you don't mind setting off earlier, then the RER might work for you. From 6am they run very frequently from the station and takes approx 40 minutes to Chatelet Les Halles, where you change to the B3 line to CDG. Another 40 minutes or so you get off at Aéroport Roissy Charles de Gaulle 1. This is the same place as where the airport shuttle would drop you off for Terminal 3 - so just walk up from there.

A Paris Visite one day travel card for Zones 1-5 would cost you 17.05 euros each - so quite a saving on the TGV.

Keep in mind that the TGV is very rarely delayed. It of course can happen as one poster experienced it but the odds are slight.

A shuttle is very nice as Becky suggests but it would be no more immune to delays than the TGV since a shuttle would have to deal with traffic. In fact a shuttle would be more prone to delays as you would be traveling at prime traffic time so be sure to get picked up nice and early if you choose the shuttle.

I've just thought - are you flying with Thompson on the way back, or Easyjet? Their flight is at 10.25, but check-in doesn't close until 9.55. Which would make both the VEA and TGV feasible options again.

Hadn't thought of that!! So, if we're leaving DLP at 7.45 on a Thursday morning, how long can we expect our shuttle to take to get to the airport?

Hmmm, decisons decisons....! Yeah its easy jet on the way back. Do they not close check in til 30 mins before then? Thats a bit better if so. Takes a bit of the pressure off! I'm tempted by the TGV but my bf wants to get a taxi/shuttle. Will let you know when i decide!! Thanks for all the advice!!

Hi ya Bexx :) . I havent driven from CDG to Disney at prime traffic time. I am going to guess at allowing 1 hour to get there but perhaps someone that has actually done it can help. I know "la francillien" can get backed up in the AM but not every morning.

We did it the opposite way at peak time CDG to DLP at 5.00pm. I think it took us about 1 1/2 hours :)
