VBAC, anyone?

I also had a VBAC. DS was breach so I had a c-section. DD was born in about 5 hrs soup-to-nuts (got to the hospital too late so no drugs for me :scared: ). My doc said that the birth was a textbook VBAC.

I had a planned c-section, then two VBACS. The kids and I are all none the worse for wear. The VBAC recoveries were SO much easier than the c-section.

Good luck to you, and if you have any questions, pm me!

I also have to admit that I *do* have feelings of failure for not delivering ******lly.

I had those same feelings.
I know you should be happy to have a heatlhy baby no matter how it was delivered, but still you have those feelings.

I have to admit it was a totally different feeling for me to have my 2nd child via VBAC versus my first via c-section.

With my second DD-I got to hold her right away and feel her warm body. I swear I have never felt something so warm and sweet in all my life. I got to breastfeed right away too. I was able to get up and move within minutes of giving birth, plus I got to eat a sandwich!!

Versus my first DD, where I only got to kiss her cheek before she was whisked away and I was taken to c-section recovery for an hour. I missed her first feeding and it took me days/week to feel better. Plus I couldnt eat!! I do love my snacks!

Once again, best of luck.

Thanks, everyone!

With my first, I dilated and pushed with no meds. However, after quite a bit of pushing, nothing was happening as far as movement. I had an epidural, slept a while, and then tried to push again. The baby wasn't moving, so that's when the C-section was decided upon. Recovery for me was pretty awful, and I would rather not go through it again. Plus, I don't want to be forced to have someone with me all the time to help take care of my 19 month old while I recover from a C-section. I also have to admit that I *do* have feelings of failure for not delivering ******lly. Thank you to Tribe0701 for the kind words. I know in my heart that a safe delivery is all that matters, but my head sometimes has a hard time catching up. :headache:

Your welcome! The thing I see the most is a great sence of failure from women, it just breaks my heart that these women are so hard on themselves about something that is totally out of thier control. It is good to acknowledge your feelings but not beat yourself up.

Also, I encourage you to not let the DR talk you into a c-section unless it is medically needed. Give it a good try! If there is no danger to the baby, no danger to you, and it is just "taking too long" there is no need to race to a c-section. At some point if there is no progress then it will be needed, but sometimes the DR's timeline is a little short.

Baby #1 - 11 lbs - scheduled C-section
Baby #2 - 10 lbs - scheduled C-section
Dr. said sure I could deliver, if I ever had a "normal" sized baby.
Baby #3 - 8 lb, 10 oz. - VBAC. It was SO COOL! I was thrilled. After I delivered, I held baby and was alert. They actually asked me if I wanted a meal. I was shocked to be asked that and I initally declined and they said they'd bring something anyway...about an hour after I'd delivered I was eating hospital spaghetti that tasted so good to me!!!

They let you try a VBAC after two c-sections? I think at our hospital, if you have two c-sections, and then get pregnant a third time, its an automatic c-section. That gives me hope if we ever do have a third child, as my first two were both c-sections.

OP, I had a c section unexpectedly with my first. I went on to have two very successful vbac deliveries. I was really nervous because my first labor was so long and unsuccessful, but the other two were much easier and no problems.

Best of luck,

Laura

frtchr...I had a VBAC with my second child. It went very well. I did have an epidural and some tearing. I can completely relate with how you felt about the feeling of 'failure'. The VBAC was very safe and the recovery was better than with the c/s even with the tearing. Everyone wants a safe delivery and when you look at the research you'll discover you are on the right track. The risk of rupture is only slightly increased with a VBAC birth unless you use pitocin...so maybe your head and heart are in the right place. I did have a wonderful Dr to support me. That was in 2000, he no longer does VBACS because of insurance...but that's a whole new topic. Best of luck.

OP if you do get your VBAC tear dont get cut.. Cutting is SOOOOOO much worse healing... OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!
