We'll be staying at VB this July and want to take a side trip to the Space Center. We'll arrive in Orlando by 10 AM. Should we do the Space Center before heading to VB or Check in there first adn try the trip on another day? Perhaps check out day before we do to WDW. Any advice?

Check in first. KSC is 1-1 1/2 hr trip one way. If you have the time, take A1A all the way up,it's more scenic, actually shorter mileage wise but littered with traffic lights.

You could make KSC in about an hour from MCO. and 6-8 hours will give you plenty of time to take 1 of the tours and see an imax film plus walk around. You'll have to check their hours. You also may be able to buy tickets in advance, many gov't place let you do this. It does get crowded this time of year though so I'm not sure about 6-8 hours. We've never spent more then 5 hours there in Feb which I guess is slower.
You could then drive down to VB and relax without worrying about getting to KSC later in your trip......spruce

Packing the Space Center in after flying in to Orlando is a lot to handle in one day. You could easily spend 8 hrs at the space cente so getting there around lunch after arriving at 10 am is cutting yourself short in my opinion. You can find the hours of the Kennedy Center off the http://www.nasa.gov/ website. I am not sure they were open after 5pm when we were there in the summer of 2001. There may be some restrictions after 9-11 as well. You may want to check before arriving.

We drove up to KSC last year while staying at VB. Got to the space center at opening, and returned to Vero around 5 p.m. There is a lot to see at the Space Center, and it takes a while to do it, what with getting on and off the tour bus and coordinating the IMAX movie times. I would suggest having a whole day for this, and starting out rested, rather than trying to hit it on your way.
