If you ever want to experience some real relaxation maybe book VB for the last weeks of Sept. Stopped by for breakfast this morning and the place was deserted. The parking lot around the Inn did not have one car in it. Not everyday you get Shutters all to yourself.:) As was reported earlier, part of the beach access ramp has washed away again as usual. The steps are still open for access. They were doing quite a bit of landscape touchup and trimming this morning before the sky opened up and it has not stopped since all along the coast.:( Great day for ducks and fish
 ;)

We ate lunch last year in Shutter's all by ourselves. It was wonderful.

I love VB when there aren't many people there. I think we will try and go in September at some point.

Oops. Sorry. Its hurricane season. Its raining. The sea is rough. Nothing to do. Boringggg. Better watch out. Will get accused of resort bashing again.

floridafam: Did your husband do the triathlon at WDW this weekend? Saw a ton of bikes and people at the Contemporary on Sat.:)

madcoco,

Nope, he didn't do the one at WDW. He does want to do that one at some point but it's not a very long distance and he doesn't want to goof up his training schedule for the Ironman he is doing in a few weeks.

Wish us luck on October 25. He will be in Clermont for the Great Floridian-2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. He's crazy!!!!

Just to let people know who may be going to VB soon, the ocean temp was posted at a balmy 84 degrees on Weds. Be on the lookout for schools of baitfish "running" in the surf. Something is usually chasing them. There were huge Tarpon feeding very close to shore. They were a sight to see. Don't want to sound like someone's dad here, but it is best to stay on the beach in the early AM or wherever you spot schools of baitfish. There are usually other species feeding as well. A 16 year old from Sebastian was attacked by a shark in the surf earlier this week to the south of the resort at North Hutchinson Island. Ate lunch and dinner at Hurricane Harbor Seafood Company(old Hurricane Harbor) in Sebastian. New owners/ Chef Great Seafood but higher prices. More to follow.

Thanks for the update, Mike.

I saw a story on the latest find in that area earlier this week - makes me want to head to Vero! Sounds like a substantial discovery!

Here's a site to check the beach conditions.

Wabasso Beach

Mike's observations are right on with what's posted here -- they also mention the caution due to bait fish.

Coming from Savannah as a kid we always went swimming in the water and took lots of trisp to the Gulf for spring break. We always sawm in the ocean without a second thought. Now that i have kids, though I've becoem quite freaked. They are allowed to play in the sand, in the waves right at the very end, but for any swimming we go back to the pool.
We are the outsiders in the ocean, there are just too many thinsg out there that can get us. Last time I was in the Gulf I had a sea snake swim between my legs right up in the shallow part. Talk about freaking me out.................................and I ahd my littel oen in my arms!

Argh!! I don't even know what that is!!!! I love strolling the beach but I'm a chicken about what's in the water with me. ;)
