We were told by another DVC member that they went to a great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant but they could not remember the name. Any ideas? We are here now and would love to check it out.

I have no idea if this is it but it came up in a Google search:

Restaurant review: La Fonda in Vero Beach

When an avowed bean hater says "That's really good," and he's talking about the frijoles charros, you know you have a Mexican restaurant to reckon with.

La Fonda (our waiter tells us it means little restaurant) has just opened in that little half block off 14th Avenue where Blessings used to be. We're delighted to see it.

Although it may be damning with faint praise, it is, in my opinion, by far the best Mexican food in town. It's been open only a few weeks and the decor is not much changed from when Blessings was here, although the subliminal signs have been removed.

A few scenes of Mexico hang on the walls and the tables and chairs have plenty of space in this small restaurant that seats only a couple of dozen diners.

The waitresses and host are welcoming and energetic and the food is authentic, according to our friends who live near Guadalajara.

We started out with soup and chimichangas. The soup, black bean, was dark, thick and flavorful. The chimichangas were crisp and tasty. We also tried the beef with salsa -- skirt or flank steak baked covered with red salsa. It was quite tender and very tasty.

Chilies Rellenos, my all-time favorite Mexican dish, were made with real, fresh poblanos and stuffed with zesty meat filling. The batter was a little soggy, but overall the dish was a nice success.

The Tacos Nortenos are huge: Three flour tortillas stuffed with pork and avocado and served with the regular accoutrements of shredded lettuce, pico de gallo and guacamole, and the ever-present frijoles charros.

The slow-cooked barbecue pork was the table's favorite.

I suppose many people are wary of Mexican food because they think it may betoo spicy. On the other hand, the red and green salsas here and especially the pico de gallo could stand a little more heat even for my Yankee palate.

A dish called Semitas Poblanas is described as "very picant." I'll try it next time.

We do plan to come back. In fact, we plan to eat our way through the entire menu.
