Ebay currently has a resale for 150 pts. at VB that is at $1009.00 with no reserve. Of course, they said the owner paid $26,500 for it. I didn't know VB ever sold for $176.67/pt. I think they might be mistaken on that, huh?

I know in the past, DVC hasn't done a lot of ROFR on E-bay auctions. That would be an amazing deal!

This sounds more like they are auctioning of one years worth of points for a vacation. Points rent between $10-$12. Whoever is selling it could get a lot more for it, it will never make it past ROFR. I thinks it's a mistake.

No, they are actually selling the deed. Just starts as a low bid no reserve auction. I have looked at this seller's other auctions and most seem to be this way.

I can't believe it would make ROFR either. I would be intrigued to see where this one goes. If someone here on the DIS wins, maybe we could track the ROFR process.

If the seller wants out at any price, then the auction may be legitimate...but the buyer won't get it past ROFR.

yeah, if it doesn't break $7500 or so, it'll definitely get ROFRed.

ebay auctions often won't move significantly till the end anyway...

Question on this - based on the listing it sounds like if you win, they will get you the contract.

So even if it doesn't pass ROFR, don't they (the seller, not Disney) still have to get you a contract? The listing doesn't mention the possibility of ROFR.

Actually it does mention ROFR.

This auction is subject to Disney's First Right of Refusal. If Disney decides to exercise this right, you will be refunded the total amount paid.

I was checking out their other auctions (for other non-dvc timeshares), both current and completed and are shocked by how cheap some of them go for.

Whats the catch? In some cases you have to pay back the current years maintenance fees, and going forward you do assume the maintenance fees, but otherwise they appear to be clear of any other debt.

For example a 2BR at Sheraton Vistana, floating week, for $97 (+$1806 in costs and maintenance fees).

We have rented at the Vistana before (when we were out of DVC points for the year), and while its not Disney and is a little worn, its not a bad place to stay.

I have to admit, I have avoided other timeshares like the plague, and I know they loose their value pretty quickly, but gosh its tempting. I guess the only concern is being stuck with something you cannot even give away and having to pay the maintenance fees for the rest of your life!

i haven't looked into the details over on TUG but i think vistana owners got hit with a huge special assessment over the next 3 years or so, which they will owe in addition to their normal annual maintenance fee payments. competent management of timeshares is not a given even with a good brand like sheraton.
