vasectomy question?

I got to be in the room when my DH had his done. I can't tell you it is not as easy we think. I was jsut like everyone else and thought it was a piece of cake. After seeing it done first hand it is not easy at all. I would never put my husband through that again. His was done in the doctors office with local anesthesia. I wish and my DH wishes that it was done in the hospital with general anesthesia. Good luck to your DH and I hope it goes much smoother than my DH did.

DH had his done in the office with local (not even a valium). He drove himself and took only the 1 day off work. He said it was a piece of cake.

thanks all for the input! I wonder if it was more a twilight sleep her dh was talking about, and just called it a general? no idea. sounds like having it done outside of the office is fairly common. my friend is going to go ahead and do some more research, though, before they set it up.

I would be facinated to watch my h's if they let me. (or if he would let me). but then, I wanted to watch my own c-sections. the type he is having is non-scalpel, and it sounds really interesting.

I am so excited, I think july 31 (v-day) will be better than christmas. lol

You can see videos online if you look. It's really not that interesting though.

Reminds me of the SNL skit where "Sean Connery" (Darryl Hammond) was on Jeopardy!.
One of the categories was "The Pen Is Mighter" but he read it wrong, KWIM? Anyone remember that one?
This is OT, but years and years ago one of our local newspapers published a headline after (then) Governor Tommy Thompson used the line item veto on the budget to completely undo what the legislature intended. The headline: "His pen is a sword" ... but the spacing between the words wasn't quite right and it read as something completely different :rotfl:.

My DH is going in to have this procedure done in the next couple months. I'm glad for him that it's pretty quick and easy.

Without a doubt, one of the most surreal experiences I have ever had.

Not a lot of guys replying to this thread - I wonder why? :lmao:

For those considering a vasectomy I have two words for you: Frozen Peas

Get two bags - keep one in the freezer, one in your lap, switch every 45 minutes or so.

Yes, my ex liked the frozen peas too.

I had my NSV (No Scalpel Vasectomy) last month. It took ten minutes and the worst part of it was a few, quick minor twinges from the non-needle freezing process. It was done in the doctor's house. (He has an informative website with a lot of humour on it: google "Dr. Weiss", "Ottawa" and "No Scalpel Vasectomy" if you want to see it; I think it's just vasectomy.ca.)

There was no brusing or swelling and no real aching. I took the anti-inflammatories the doc gave me for ten days, but that was because of my back. It was a break from Advil.

I can't remember exactly how pricey it was. It was mostly covered by government healthcare.

Anyway, in another few weeks I'm due to send off a testing sample. Results will be on the web site. The modern age!

Thank you for posting this. This is by far my favorite SNL skit. No one I know remembers it. Thinking about makes me laugh so hard I cry. If only they would make a total Jeopardy SNL DVD.

Did you see the season finale? Hilarious.

I have found in my time at ICAN that many many MDs "shorthand" it and call things general when it isn't actually general.

Compared to a woman having tubes tied, this is nothing.... Especially with the new minimally invasive methods there are no stitches, just two little "poke holes". General anesthesia for a health guy is overkill.

I saw DHs vasectomy #2, DH saw my 1st c-section (2nd was emergency under anesthesia). He would have never asked me to have my tubes tied after that.
