Hello all,

My wife an I started looking at DVC back in 2007 when we visited WDW and had a tour around SSR. We were very interested and nearly bought, but things got in the way.... we had 2 children instead!

Anyway we are going there again in just over 3 weeks (for my 40th!) with the whole family and are again looking at DVC.

I do appreciate that I wont get full usage of the 40 year points, but it is something we can either pass onto our children, or sale, whatever takes our fancy in the future.

Anyway.... we were looking at 250 points (not sure where yet, we'll have a look at the resorts when we get there, but it will possibly be OKW) that many points will serve our holiday needs. Now can we split these points up and get them from different resorts? Such as:

150 - SSR
50 - OKW
50 - AKL

Would all these resorts be classed as our home resort? Could we book any of the above 3, 11 months in advance for all the 250 points or is it only for the points you purchase for that resort? i.e. only 50 points can be booked at AKL 11 months in advance?

I hope that makes sense?

Cheers in advance...

If you are looking at buying direct from Disney you will be offered the current resort (BLT in WDW) although you may be able to 'press' for availability of points at sold-out resorts - I know these are usually available as add-ons, but don't know if they can be accessed for an initial purchase. If you are buying resale the choice is yours.

For what you plan (to split your points across 3 resorts) the usual route would be to start out with a main contract (the 150 points) and then add on the remaining contracts. Each of these would entitle you to home-resort booking benefits at ONLY those resorts for those points. So, yes, as in your example, only the 50 AKL points can be used to book 11 months out at AKL. However, with banking and borrowing, you could have 150 AKL points available 11 months out every three years.

Hope than answers some of your queries :)

Hilary,

Many thanks, thats what I thought.

We will have another visit and chat the the DVC reps on our next visit, but I dont think we'll be going for BLT because initially its too expensive at $120 a point! even with the incentive it only goes down to £112. We will be looking at resale..

Only the number of points you own at any resort can be used to book at 11 months, so your right in thinking you could only book 50 points worth at AKL at 11 months

If you are going for a resale and wanted to buy 3 contracts then you'd pay 3 lots of closing fees so it might make more sense to buy points at one resort. I don't really see the need to own points at all three of those resorts as you'll never have any problems getting into SSR (except if you wanted to book the Theehouse Villas) and OKW is usually easy to get into to as well.

I think Disney are currently still selling AKL so you might get a good discount buying 250 points there. Otherwise have a look at one of the resales and be sure to make an offer as you're looking to buy so many points

FYI you will have difficulty purchasing the two smaller contracts through resale. Generally the smaller the contract, the more expensive it is. I've been looking for a small 50 point contract at BCV through several sources and they rarely come open. Those that do are only about 5% down from their peak. The larger the contracts, the lower the price at this point.

Rather than OKW, you may want to consider BWV or BCV. OKW is the oldest resort and you may want to consider getting a home resort within walking distance of shops and parks.

Hope that helps.
