"Vanpooling"?

Never heard the term "vanpool" before. You learn something new every day!

The term is fairly old. It supposedly goes back to the Arab oil embargo of the 70s. I saw its use quite often around here, but traffic congestion has been a concern because of the population density, and geography around here with all the hills and water. I'd see marked vanpool passenger vans in the 80s.

It's taking off to some degree because the internet makes it easier for people to arrange for these services. And there are tons of subsidies - especially for government employees. This van is kind of ugly, but apparently the county has enough vans provide that there's at least #18.

Because all three roads need immediate work? Because the projects are different and require different skills?

At least you know about the work and should be able to estimate how much additional time to allot. Or which back roads to use. How much traffic is there between 10 PM and 3 AM Especially compared to during the day? Isn't one lane at night still faster than any rush hour?

Or you could just leave for work before the road work starts.
Same work. Non-emergency. Big issue now is they are having to redo entire projects that have failed because they couldn't see there was a problem because of the darkness. Go figure.

My favorite is the perfectly good project they have to rip up due to poor planning.

Example, the entrance to the new Walmart in our town off Hwy 100. The state was in the process of widening the highway from 2 lanes to 4 and were within 6 months of reaching town when the city built the intersection for the Walmart entrance. But, instead of planning for where the highway WOULD be, they built the entrance as if there was no pending change. And then 6 months later tore it all up again.

Or, the case where the county approved a new sub division on previously empty farmland despite knowing US 50 is eventually going to be rerouted right through there.
