I went today, and I loved it. I know that the reviews have been all over the place but if you love a good historical romance with rich costumes - then you should go see it.
Reese may be more sympathetic than Becky in the book but she stays true to her character and does mature throughout the story.
I you are used to the pastel muslins of Emma and Pride & Prejudice then the rich colors and silks may seem odd but they are fashionable for married women of the age and you can see the advent of Victorian fashions.
The director is an Indian woman (Monsoon Wedding) so I believe that she brings a fresh perspective to a story set during a time when England had a great deal of influence on India.
There is wit, satire, unrequited love, class snobbery, ... the works.
One of the male leads played the coach in Bend it Like Beckham. There is no overt sex, just a lot of flirting and langorous looks so I would take a teen age daughter to see it, especially as many of the themes are universal.
