Vandalized!! @ Epcot parking lot

This is kind of spooky, but some guy was trying to sell me a cell phone at a rest area on the garden state parkway.

He said he just returned from his yearly Jersey week trip to Disneyworld and he always steals things from the cars in the Disney parking lots because no one ever expects it. He said that he usually only vandalizes cars from Tennessee because the people are too nice.

But don't worry, I didn't buy the phone, the guy was really obnoxious.

:jester: Back at ya :jester:

Hmmm, I didn't realize NJ had the monopoly on screaming kids. I'll remember to remind mine that the next time they scream that we are from Michigan . Just out of curiousity, did anyone tell you there MIGHT be some children at WDW???

Having grown up in New Orleans, I will lock my car even when I am only getting out to drop a letter in a mailbox 5 feet away. It's a lifetime habit that has served me well. I also always clear the decks when I park the car.

If you use a car-charger for a cell phone, be aware that thieves will look for that little light on the charger plug. Even with tinted windows, that light is visible, and there is a good bet that if the light is on, there is a phone attached. If you really have to charge the phone when the car is parked, black out that light and push the phone itself under the seat.

Never thought that something like that could happen at WDW property !

The on-site police almost laughed at us, didn't recommend a police report and said much of their day is filled with WDW complaints of car break-ins

It sounds UNBELIVABLE for me !!

Wich is the law in FL or USA ?

Can t you ask about the responsibility of WDW ?

If you are off site you are paying to park and on site guest are paying indirectly so i guess that WDW has responsibility if something happened in your car !!

am i wrong ?

I think whether you are at Disney or anywhere you have to be careful. Theives best bets are when our guards are down. Most people are so submerged in the magic and wonderment of Disney to think of crime.

As for the slam on NJ people-- if you didn't mean it then why didn't you just erase the line prior to posting? Rather than thinking you did right by putting a lame, sarcastic apology after the remark? I was there last week, during NJ week too. Yes, I saw lots of NJ cars. I didn't expierence any rudeness that was any different. Sure there were the middle of the walkway stoppers, there were the kids bumping you in line w/ mom & dad acting oblivious, there was the screaming kid in the middle of the show mom & dad didn't remove from the show, there were the line cutters, table holders, run up my heels w/ your stroller people. However they were people from all 50 states and many other countries from around the world. I'm sure I did something that was considered rude by someone just as I'm sure you did. But to categorize people from a particular state is wrong. Would you blame an entire ethnic group-- no because that wouldn't be accepted. I don't see where you think you were justified in your remarks. They didn't belong in your post. I'm from NY. Nowhere near NJ (just for the record-- close to 7-8 hrs away). I think for you to categorize and judge show's just how small minded and ignorant you are. However, I wouldn't judge all people from Tennesse by one bad seed. I case I can see beyond that though!!!

Why not??? There is just as much crime at WDW as in the real world. Everyone is lulled into thinking "it won't happen here" because of the locale. If you only knew what goes on at WDW on any given day/evening your head would spin off.

SCOTTNJ,

Point taken. Hey, if you ever wanna talk, just go to my cellphone's phone book and scroll down to HOME. It will call me right up!
we could chat; ya know, one filthy southern redneck to one obnoxious yankee! what a pair!

Thanks for laughing, btw.

NotUrsula,

Thanks for that tidbit. That is actually something I never thought of. and you are probably right as to why our car was targeted that night.

Someone stole my friend's antenna topper off her car in the EPCOT parking lot on Friday. I guess it was too much trouble to pay 3.00 for their own a few feet away in the park. Some people really stink. :(

Princess Michelle,

I totally agree with you. I don't want this to turn into a philosophical expose on the dark side of humanity, but it literally infuriates me when someone thinks they can take something that plainly isn't theirs. I would never even consider stealing from someone, so naturally it's appalling when I see others doing it with apparently no qualms or regret whatsoever.

I can say that thieves certainly have a great amount of either courage or stupidity because if I had witnessed this particular theft, there would have been some serious bodily injury inflicted. (hopefully mostly on them and not me) It would make me equally mad if someone stole my $3 antenna topper instead of my pricey cellphone for the simple fact of PRINCIPLE. and how these morons think they can take something that isn't theirs with no consequences whatsoever. which they sadly did in this case. I can only hope that wrongs will be made right one day.

You spelled PRINCIPLE correctly. I , as God, give you one point for that (we don't want to have to go to the Principal, now, do we?).

Whether we all get what we deserve in this life is a matter of hope and a commitment to honesty. I, as one among many, believe we only reap what we sow. Thieves will not prosper for long. You may not be made whole, but the bad guys usually get caught.

Sorry to hear about your experience. We are going this Christmas so will take precaution as much as possible.

We just got back from 8 days and 8 nights at WDW. We drove our brand new Avalanche and left it in All Star Movies parking lot the whole time. Never moved it. My DH had to go check on it each night we got back from the parks. We made it a point not to leave anything of value in the vehicle. I am real sorry what happened to you. I think it would have ruined our vacation. My DH would have wanted to go straight home if something like that would have happened. I feel your pain.

We have been during Jersey week 3 times. I have found that for some reason they just talk louder than what we are used to and they are very proud of their state because they tell everyone! No harm in that . I find NJ people friendlier than most as a matter of fact during our whole trip they were the only people I could strike up a conversation with!

:(
Thanks for the reminder that theft happens everywhere...... I can see why WDW is such a good target for thieves. People on vacation tend to be not as on guard and at WDW I think that doubles.
I'm so sorry for the reality it brought into your trip.
As far as the comment about NJ people, I took the comments to be tongue-in-cheek.
As a southerner, I was brought up to be quiet and respectful of other peoples space and senses. I was taught that to be loud and pushy and agressive was not polite.
I realize that what southerners see as loud, pushy and agressive are seen as normal to people primarly from the northeastern US.
Not wrong, just different.
Therein lies why southerners may seem so laid back and meek (stupid) to people outside the region, while we tend to see people raised in the northeast as loud, pushy, etc.
Truce, ya'll?

This might seem like a minor deal...but think about this. That antenna topper might just be the one gift a 3-year-old bought Daddy or Mommy as a special present. It can be heartbreaking to explain to a child in tears that someone thought it was okay to steal.

Perdidobay,

Your kind comments are appreciated. and thank you for seeing my comment for what it was.

We just got back from 4 days/3 nights of park-hoppin' at Disney. We had a mahvelous time, but we thought security in the parking lots was pretty darn lax. Our first night at the Magic Kingdom, we hopped a tram to ride back to our car and then found out...hey...no trams to our part of the parking lot (we found this out AFTER we rode to the end and everybody else got off!)

No, our part of the parking lot was apparently deemed too close for a tram, so we had to walk. OK, no problems, we'd left at closing time, so there were plenty of other people walking.

A couple of nights later, we left 2 hours before closing, and there was NOBODY, I mean, NOBODY walking to our section of the parking lot. You could practically see the tumbleweeds a-blowin' in the ghost town that was our parking lot! This got us to speculating....that a thief could easily pay 7 bucks to park in the lot, bide his time, then start picking off cars one by one in the quieter areas.

At least in the mall, you see security dudes in golf carts driving around the parking lots. I guess Disney thinks their lots are too big to bother patrolling (and too small to have trams to all parts of the lot??? Hmmm.).

A thief could also pay his 7 bucks, ride the monorail, take the ferries to the resorts, etc. There basically is little security when you are talking about Disney parking lots and transportation.

I'm sorry to hear your car was vandalized and very glad it wasn't stolen! We tend to be very lax about what we keep in our cars because my DH is self-employed and keeps all his tools, laptop, etc. in the car. We will be more careful at Disney in the future.
