Traveling with a large party (14) and needing 4 rooms in vancouver for 2 nights before Disney Cruise. What are your recommendations? I would *love* to stay on the Harbour but can't swing the published rate of $699 nightly. Do you trust hotels.com? Are there any hotels nearby that are recommended? Need some DISboard wisdom....

Thanks in advance

I was just asking in another thread for hotels in the $150-$200 USD/night range downtown, with two queen beds. The ones I found were Blue Horizon (we made a reservation there, directly with the hotel online but they are also on booking.com), Hotel Blu, and Hampton Inn. There were a couple other suggestions in that thread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/ho...hat-offer-2-queen-beds.3433665/#post-54166614

As to your question about hotels.com, I've booked with them multiple times in the past and been happy. Most hotels now will price match hotels.com, booking.com, etc if you contact the hotel directly and point to the rate.

Go to tripadvisor.com and search, the information provided by others is priceless to me. I will not book a room before checking it out on trip advisor first.
We got the Pan Pacific for just over $200 on Hotels.com back in 2013. We sailed in Sept. and booked hotel late July.

Try last minute travel. Join the club to get the best rates. We booked the Pan Pacific for 208.00. There were other hotels on the water than were less than that.

hotels.com is really good, IMO.

But I find staying right there at Canada Place to be unnecessary. As long as you're in downtown Vancouver, you are in walking distance from the ship (maybe a longer walk, maybe not fun with bags, but if push came to shove it's walkable), so to me it's all good.

We like the Holiday Inn (you'll know you have the right place if you see a picture of an orca painted in the pool), Listel Hotel, the Sutton and next-door La Grande Residence, and even Century Plaza if it's all been renovated yet. We've stayed at one or two others that aren't coming to mind right now; we haven't found a hotel in downtown Vancouver that we dislike yet.

We had 9 people last year and stayed at Times Square Suites. It is an apartment style hotel in the West End near Stanley Park. It was very easy to walk to places or use the bus. We did have to take taxis to the port but the hotel staff helped us set those up. We had 2 2-bedrooms with a kitchen and washer/dryer and 1 regular room. The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. Loved this hotel and would stay here again in a heart beat.

We stayed at the Loden Hotel in May before a Celebrity cruise. It was a very easy walk to Canada Place (we walked over once early in the morning for exercise and to see if we really needed a cab and then later for boarding while pulling our bags) and we paid $180/night. It's a "boutique" hotel and very nice. I definitely felt like the price we paid was low for the quality of the room and location! We were able to walk around the afternoon before for some shopping and dinner and really enjoyed the area.
We met a couple on the ship that used Priceline (or hotels.com - now I can't remember!) to bid a hotel and got the Fairmont Pacific Rim for $120/night!! I was jealous of that one but having never used an online bidding site for hotels I would have never thought of it. They loved it!

I'm guessing the cruise leaves on Sept.26th as that is when it's back from Hawaii. So 24th and 25th for hotel.

This one has a two bedroom suite (King and Queen) and a sofa bed in living room, one bathroom, kitchen, and dining for just over $200 a night. Includes complimentary breakfast, shuttles and internet. http://www.landissuitesvancouver.com/accommodations/executive-suite/ Also has a two bedroom suite (King and 2 Twins) with 2 bathrooms for just over $300 a night.

Going to Expedia I see lots of choices for around $200 a night for September 25th availability this year. Check out the reviews to see which one is suitable for you...

What are your dates? The Century Plaza is $180 a night on hotels.com and is close to Canada Place.

We sail 17th august...late in the game to find deals, i know, but have had a crazy busy summer....

Right now on Hotwire there is a listing for Stanley park/coal harbor 4 star hotel for $211. I would strongly consider this option given that you are so close to your travel date plus a four star is similar to Westin or Hyatt so that should be very nice.

In fact, I would not doubt if it is the Hyatt because when I searched on hotels.com that was one of the only downtown hotels that showed up as well.

The Westin Bayshore still has the "Pay Your Birth Year" promo. You pay rack rate for the first night (which is outrageous), but your second night is cheap. You only pay your birth year for the second/third nights. So, for your nights, you would pay $803 CAD (yikes) for your first night (including taxes and fees), and $78 CAD or so for your second night (assuming a birth year of 1967 - includes taxes/fees). So a total of $880 (still high), but after converting to USD at the favorable exchange rate, it comes to $330 USD per night. Its still not cheap but not as bad as some downtown locations. We loved that location since its right next to Stanley Park!

Note: PAYAGE is the promo code. The taxi ride was $12 CAD to the port.

Edited: Noticed that the Premium Tower room is the same price as the standard room. Still a far cry from your $200 Target though.

Good luck!

Have you considered a VRBO rental? When we were in Vancouver post cruise, and I was looking at hotels I could not bring myself to spend that much so I started looking at the different VRBO options. We ended up getting a 2 bedroom with a full kitchen and laundry on the tube-line that goes to Canada Place and the airport for less than $150 a night. It was a great location in Yaletown with views of the water. I think it slept 7 people. You need 4 rooms at say $175 a night...that gives you $700 a night to play with.

I did a quick search and found two great places that would fit your entire group and they were $169 a night and the other was $395 a night and available for 2 nights. At that kind of savings, taking a limo to the cruise ship terminal or to site see is still well within your budget :)

Coast Plaza shows as 197/night (plus taxes/fees of course) right now.

Ramada Vancouver Downtown shows up at 150. Right now. And I'm not signed in, so I'm not getting rates just for our "level" of hotels.com usage.

If you're going to use hotwire, use one of the sites that helps you translate hotwire. Their 4 star doesn't equal a hotel's 4 star, and wouldn't equal hotels.com's 4 star. Gotta compare within that one site. betterbidding is one of the sites that helps translate places like hotwire.

are you searching using her criteria of four rooms for 14 people for two nights? I am only getting five properties up for all of Vancouver using that criteria on hotels.com.

Thanks to all for the help...i was ableto get Sheraton @ airport for saturday (we fly in late and will likely just crash) and Pan Pacific for Sunday before cruise. I'm slightly nervous as I've always booked right through hotel sites and never expedia or anything, but my fingers are crossed.
