Value vs. Moderate

We are staying at All Star Movies for a week in June. We're a Grand Gathering party of 9 and will be getting married off property while we're there!

Every day I check the difference in rates between All Star Movies and The Coronado resort. I've found the difference any where between $800 and $1400. My first question is, is it REALLY worth the extra money? From what I can tell, the only difference is the nicer decor and a fancier pool (water slides). Second, when we arrive, if there are still rooms available at Coronado, will Disney discount the rate of an upgrade at that point just to fill those rooms?

Thanks for all your help!

We like the mods better. They are much more resort feeling. If it is your honeymoon, I would go ahead and splurge at least for a couple of days and go for a mod. It is much calmer than the values. (At least, that is the way it was for me.) Nothing wrong with values, just for your honeymoon, you want some quiet time just the two of you. I can't speak for CSR but I know that CBR had quite a few little places to rest and enjoy the resort without everyone around. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I second the moderate for the period of your stay that is your "honeymoon". (Not knowing if you are having a seperate one planned or not) It should be a quieter resort, both in noise and decor.
The major differences are a slightly bigger room, and possibly slightly more/better ammenities. (Pool etc) I don't know if Disney would discount on the spot.
Congrats on the wedding!!

Thank you both for the response. I really want to upgrade, but my fiance is not convinced that it's worth the extra $$$. We won't spend that much time in our room, I agree. I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time no matter where we stay!
Are the beds more comfortable in the moderate resorts?

Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

The newly refurbished resorts have new pillowtop mattresses that are very comfortable.

The resorts that I know that have the pillowtop matresses are
Deluxe- Poly, CR and GF

Mod- CSR

Value- All Star Music and All Star Sports.

Hope that helps.

Have fun at WDW! :wizard:

There are a few more differences between a value and a moderate. The moderates have a table service restaurant as well as a food court. The moderates also have a hot tub.

However, the values are fine. If it's a question of money, then go with a value. If you want a few more "perks", go with the moderate.

I think we're going to stay in the value resorts. I think that the few small differences are just not worth the increase in price. Plus, it gives us that much more to spend on nicer dining and souvineers!
I wish I'd known about the newer beds at Music.....I'd have selected that resort instead of Movies. A comfy bed means a lot!

Thanks again..

you only get married once(in theory)

the values..great for families with kids

Honeymooners? Consider upgrading. Tell sweetie that being tight now does not make for a happy bride..the only exception to any of this is if upgrading will strain your budget in which case the rule "better at any resort at disney, than not being there at all" applies
