Guests of Value Resorts, are you taking advantage of the Airport Luggage Transfer Service?

I am curious if this is being widely used without the addition of Disney provided transportation? I thought it may hit some of the moderate resorts by now, but perhaps the absence of ME has resulted in fewer using it than anticipated. If one needs to get an Uber/Lyft, it does not make a lot of sense, other than being able to get a less expensive vehicle for your ride (economy car vs a large sedan or SUV).

For those who may not know what I am talking about:

Yes, I used it a couple of weeks ago when I stayed at Pop. Super easy to drop off my bag and was reunited with it at baggage claim at my home airport. I generally stay at value resorts and will be happy to use this service whenever I fly Southwest. I did have an airtag in my suitcase, so I was able to track where it was. It arrived at MCO well before I did.
I used Mears Connect to get to MCO and was grateful to not have to drag my bag from ground floor of Terminal B up and over to Terminal A.

I don’t remotely expect real traction until it evolves beyond just WN.

And I completely disagree on your perception of the target audience only being those looking to decrease their rideshare luggage count. I’d love to check my bag at WDW even if I was the only one flying. The main benefit is in skipping the bag check at MCO- which can be miserable with any airline depending on your flight timing and dumb luck.

ETA- your poll is missing “I would but I’m not flying Southwest”

This is it. I’ve said a lot of times that I miss RAC way more than DME just because of the time savings. Bag drop lines are crazy at MCO in the early evenings when we tend to fly home. Now that we’re mostly flying Delta instead of JetBlue we get around them with curbside check in, but if I stayed at the values, and flew Southwest, I’d be all over this. I’m hoping they scale up sooner rather than later. Until then curbside is the way to go if your airline has it.

Rubbish. It avoids the lines to check bags at MCO. It allows a guest to end their trip at another resort or park by eliminating the need to return to your resort to claim your luggage from storage.

Hijacking a bit to ask how this works. I’ll be staying with extended family at Pop in September. I just returned from a five-day trip, which is a day longer than our normal trip, and was pushing it to only take a carry-on. Our September trip is six-days, so I have a feeling I might need to buckle and check a bag, which I have never done for SW either in person or at Disney.

Even if we were flying Southwest, the night before drop-off times for morning flights isn't particularly convenient. You still need to pack toiletries and your clothing from the prior day in something. The former service Disney offered was VERY convenient and we just dropped off our luggage the morning of departure prior to boarding DME. It also only applies when departing at the end of your vacation, where the prior service was for arrival as well as departure.

I seem to recall another recent thread that talks about this service.

(I have no idea what % of those traveling to Disney use Southwest.)

Was your luggage checked by regular bell service employees? The same employee that would check your bag for storage at the resort
No, the company that is running this service has an employee that handles the bags. At Pop, there is a separate location in the rear of the building where you drop bags on checkout day.

My flight was at 3:35pm, so I dropped my bag off at about 10:00am. But definitely not as convenient if you have an early morning flight.

Couldn't agree more.

They definitely need to go back to the only requirement being at least 4 hours before Flight.

I didn't realize it was offered, but I'll definitely use it for my trip in August. I'll probably carry-on for the trip down, but happily check a bag or two for the flight home. My flight is in the afternoon, but even if I had to drop my bags the night before, I'd rather just have a small amount of stuff to manage. Then I can potentially just grab an Uber from a park, instead of going all the way back to the hotel.

We could never use this service because Canadian flights were not part of the service. Those able to use it are really lucky

Nope. Southwest is a last-resort airline for me anyway as they don't ave any non-stops between NYC and MCO. I'll only do connecting flights if there is absolutely no alternative, and I've got a few alternatives for non-stops to MCO thankfully.

But even if it wasn't limited to Southwest, I don't think I would use it. I remember one time i had a later flight and spent the day in Animal Kingdom, but got drenched with rain on my way out and to the bus. Still having my bag allowed me to change into dry clothes before leaving for the airport. If I'd sent it ahead I would have been wet for the whole flight or had to spend a LOT of money buying new clothes from the gift shop.

Odd that they’re piloting this at value resorts. Would think if they expect it to be a true benefit from day 1, they’d roll it out from the top down. It doesn’t make sense why a nice benefit would apply to the values but not the moderate or deluxe stays.

Unless they’re expecting significant growing pains until they work the bugs out, namely lost luggage and headaches.

The announced they were piloting the values as they scaled up the offering returning after the COVID-19 shutdown.

Yes there will be issues to work out between you dropping off your bags at Airport Luggage Service, and transfers to MCO. It is also why to offering is limited to Southwest for the pilot. Most luggage is lost after it checked-in a the airport.

So if it’s not regular Pop employees who take your luggage from you than how early are they accepting bags the morning of your flight?

From the link in Post 1 “Luggage Assistance is available to receive luggage any time from 7am-1pm and 4pm-1am daily.”

Highly advise anyone looking at this service to take a minute and read the Disney website page dedicated to this. It’s not complicated but there are some very important things like hours and a reminder you will need to present your ID (just like the airport would require).
