The lesson? Check your subjects TEETH before you start shooting! :scared:

I shot my nephew's senior pictures yesterday. Didn't notice until I was Photoshopping the pics. DD17 pointed out a food particle stuck in his teeth. Yikes!! :headache: You'd think that would be pretty simple to Photoshop out, but not so much.

I learn something new with each shoot I do. That was yesterday's lesson!:rotfl:

What are your recent lessons learned (let me learn from you!)?

Double-check all your camera settings!! Depending on the subject, when I'm shooting in bright sunlight many times I'll adjust the exposure to -2/3 or even -1 2/3 if it's really bright. One time I forgot to set the exposure comp. back to 0. Next time I used my camera the sun was at an angle where I couldn't see the LCD screen very well and I took 50+ photos that were all underexposed. I spent a lot of time using Photoshop that night to fix them.:headache:

well i haven't learned it but i never seem to remember to change my iso back. and it annoys me cause i only use 400 if i absolutely have to due to noise so it ticks me off when i get noisy photos that didn't need to be:rotfl:
you might want to check "harry's filters"..i think i just saw a freebie on there for portraits that included a one click tooth whitener, don't know if it would help or not. ( if it isn't there maybe google free photoshop plug ins)

if you have elements( sorry don't remember) you still could have "multiple" processed and at least got them closer.

Well, yeah, for a pro like you!;) ;) Some of us don't have the advanced Photoshop skills like you do......:rolleyes1

not sure about photo shop but with paint shop pro, I pick out one picture , make the exposure correction, save that as an action, then I can choose all pics in that range and run the action on them..it's really simple, doesn't require much skill at all once you know how to do it

Yes, you can do that in photoshop too, very easily.

Thank you! I will definitely do that. Maybe won't help in this particular situation, but I know it will help at other times!

Thanks....I have Photoshop Elements 4 (yes, I know I should upgrade at some point), but I just haven't had the time to learn more than the most basic stuff. "Life" has been keeping me too busy to do what I want to do, unfortunately. One of these days things will slow down, I hope......

i have 5, from what i can tell the multiple process only has auto settings, in 5 it's in "file> process multiple files". you can adjust the sharpness, exposure etc add watermarks change to jpg. maybe a few more things i am forgetting.personally i've used it for watermarking but that is all.

Lessons learned? I could write books and books and books on all the things I've screwed up. As has been mentioned, a great many fall into the category of having the camera on an atypical setting. Interestingly enough, Joe McNally mentions his dislike of spot metering for this reason. It works great, but you often forget to turn it off and then screw up bunches and bunches of pictures. I rarely use it for precisely that reason.

On the topic of mass corrections, that's where Lightroom and other parametric metadata editors excel. I can adjust the exposure on thousands of pictures in lightroom in seconds. It can do it without opening the pictures. It can also do it non-destructively without the need to create any adjustment layers, so if you ever change your mind you can go back with no loss in quality.
