So Disney has a new movie coming out August 19th. I just last week saw a commercial for it, and since then have only seen one other commercial. This movie seemingly came out of nowhere. Why such little press?? :confused3 I've seen more information on the upcoming Cars and Chicken Little movies that aren't due out until next year. It seems with the Pixar movies, they promoted them before release a LOT more. This movie is a Vanguard Animation Production... not sure I've ever heard of them before.

Just thought it was a bit strange.... Valiant

I'm with you.

Of course, I spend all my time when the commercial's on trying to figure out if that's Ewan McGregor's voice...

eta: it is! I knew it! I went to your link and he's the first name listed. Hugh Laurie provides a voice too...I will definitely be seeing this now.

We got 4 free tickets with our Disney visa card. We will be seeing it Saturday.

I'd never even heard of it until yesterday when my son came over to me and said "Mom, can we go see Valiant this weekend?"

Thanks for the link.

When we went to see Madagascar awhile back our movie theatre had a few Valiant posters hanging up so I knew it was coming at some point this summer. I haven't seen anything else about it until now.

The commercial has been showing here at least 3 times a day for atleast a week. It looks like a cute movie. Maybe my TV is just on to much. :confused3

Deanna :bored:

What's bothering me about the commercials is that in the very beginning the announcer says " From the producers of Shrek and Shrek 2....." Now we all know that Disney didn't produce those movies....I wonder why Disney hasn't caught it and put a stop to it......or perhaps the producers of the Shrek movies have come to work for Disney?

We also have free tickets to go this weekend. I wonder if they aren't promoting it because it's just not very good or because of the war setting. I'll let you know after we see it.

The strange thing is that Disney movies are not usually released in the UK before they are released in the US. However this was out here a few months ago! I don't think that it did very well!

It very well may be from the "producers of Shrek & Shrek 2", it sounds like Disney is simply the distributor of the film, and may also have the DVD rights. Disney has distributed other indepenedent films.

From UltimateDisney.com:

Until now, for computer animated films, Walt Disney Pictures has relied on Pixar Animation Studios, the people who created the very first one with Toy Story in 1995. Ten years later, with moviegoers flocking to computer animation in theaters (even critically-maligned fare like Shark Tale), it's not surprising that Disney would want to expand their offerings. They're getting into the game themselves; their in-house debut Chicken Little opens this fall. But with their current Pixar agreement running out after just one more film, Disney has begun forming relationships with other CGI studios as well.
Valiant, a British film produced by Vanguard Animation, is the first to come from these strategic partnerships.

And

Produced by John H. Williams (Shrek, Shrek 2), the film was made for $40 million, a fraction of Pixar's budgets. Valiant opened in the UK in late March, and was penciled in for April 15th here in the US. As there has still been nothing publicly released from Disney, the film was not surprisingly bumped back four months and will now open on August 19th, near the tail end of the summer movie season.

I don't believe Disney made the film, I think they are just distributing it.

Yep. Terrible review in today's St. Pete Times. According to the reviewer, Disney obtained the rights to get leverage over Pixar in negotiations. He suggests that the manuever backfired and will increase Pixar's leverage, given how terrible this effort is
