valet parking

We tip a couple dollars when we drop off the car and then again tip when we pick the car up. We do this because the attendant when dropping off the car is not the same attendant when we pick up the car. So, this is not the standard, only 1 tip is necessary?

For Valet Parking: $2 when your car is delivered, more if they assist further with luggage, groceries, wheelchair, etc. Consider increasing the tip in bad weather. The recognized standard is tipping only upon delivery of the vehicle.

Just to add to that:

Back in '01 (so before the change over to vendor run valet....so maybe this has changed) we asked one of the AKL valets how that worked out. Because, usually, it was a different valet dropping off and picking up. He said that whoever "picks up" the car from you puts a note on your valet "check in", and whoever "drops off" your car to you takes the tip and splits it with the "pick up" person. If you tip at both ends, the "pick up" person just won't note the check in.

Has anyone else heard that?

I don't know if Disney is vastly different from other parts of the US, but I also believe the standard is just to tip when picking up your car rather than dropping off. Somehow I'm under the impression that many garages pool tips so it shouldn't be an issue.

Also, I haven't valet parked or garage parked in quite awhile, but when I did, I tipped $1. Is that woefully out of date?

I think the standard, now, is $2 to $3...more if you're arriving and the valet helps you with your bags (which is also the ONLY time I tip when valet "picks up".)

Good to know. In fairness, just so you don't think I'm a total scrooge, now that I have children I always tip well for help with bags. (Before I had children I traveled light and didn't need any help).

LOL!

I have a DIS board rule: I don't ever judge anyone. I don't care if you're a mug-reusing, room capacity busting, "passing your 3 year old off as 2"-ing, NO tipping, commercial point renting type of person. I might disagree with you (and I'm not talking about YOU, here...you were just seeking information) and tell you why, but...well, I've not walked a mile in anyone else's moccasins. So I leave judgment out of it.:hippie:
