My friend's brother-in-law is a DVC member who always stays at OKW. She said that they he always seems to have some sort of "pass" that allows them to park at the Polynesian, she thinks for free, and take the monorail into the park.

I am a new DVC member and have only staid at HH so am not familiar with this perk. I saw one post that seemed to say there is only free parking at DVC resorts.

Which is true? Also, is it actual valet parking if you go visit a DVC resort like BWV or do you just get to park your car yourself for free?

thanks!

There is no DVC parking perk- except for free valet parking at DVC resorts.

Every onsite guest will receive a parking pass, which allows them to park (for free) at the parks. In the past many would park at other resorts but lately WDW has begun to tighten security and eliminate this practice. They will check for a PS reservation and issue a 3 hour parking pass for the resort. I expect it may be even tighter now, with the events of the fall.

The Poly and Contemporary have been used by many for MK parking and this is an attempt by Disney to discourage that practice.

When we stayed at OKW last May, we went to the Poly for breakfast (didn't have a PS, they didn't check), we were issued a 3 hour pass (they mark the expiration time). We had a member parking pass, it didn't matter. If you valet park, you would have to pay $6 since it's not a DVC resort (if you move the car to another resort, you only have to pay the $6 once per day).

If you are staying at BWV or VWL, DVC members can either valet the car for free (still have to tip) or use the self park. When we stayed at BWV last month, we usually self parked unless we had alot of stuff to carry. It can sometimes be an adventure in that lot, especially at night, driving round and round until a space opens up. I'll usually go around once or twice and if nothing opens up, I go to valet.

I'll admit that I used to park at the Poly and go to MK, we go in the off season and the lot was not crowded so I didn't see it as a problem. But after the 3 hour pass thing started, we just park in the MK lot, it really doesn't take much longer, you just have to take the tram to the TTC to catch the monorail (or boat). We took the resort monorail one time last month because we wanted to go to GF to see their decorations and I noticed the Poly parking lot was very empty, so I guess they are cracking down. Someone posted on the resorts board a few months ago that they were towing cars one night who were over the 3 hour limit. If we go to MK in the evening when it's crowded (like MVMCP), we just take the bus, it's easier even though I hate crowded busses.
