Valentine's Gifts For Tweens?

In middle school and high school--back when I was a young whipper snapper...

The key clubs, beta clubs, whatever you want it call it clubs...often sold candy grams, balloon grams, flower grams or equivilant.

Is that an option? Of course, it kind of makes them very public at school. But often it is inexpensive and it isn't lovey dovey.

As a mom tro a 13-1/2 year old boy I would sa chocolate or cookies. Although some of the other suggestions would be well-received by DS, I think the candy and chocolate are more neutral for a 12 year old.

I like the OP's first impulse and think she should go with that. Is a $8 gift card for one free video game rental too expensive? Personally, I like the informality of this gift card mixed with the fact he does, in fact, like games. It shows mom notices and likes the kid but has no intention of encouraging anything more. The gift card could just as easily have come from a guy friend KWIM. I have a 12 year old son and this would be appropriate to me.

If not what about a Red Box rental? Do you have these near you and can you get a gift rental?

unfortunately, there's no redbox nearby-that would be a great idea! the closest one is at the wal-mart in town-about 15-20 minutes away. we have a movie gallery out here in the sticks, but unfortunately, the store is in the process of closing. DD isn't sure whether or not he has an iPod, so she's going to try to casually ask tomorrow. i think an iTunes card is a pretty cool gift, but not mushy personal. DD seemed to think it would be just right. thanks for the great ideas everyone, and for confirming my instincts about not going too personal with this. DD is an only and i have NO experience with any of this from a parent's perspective, lol. i'm open to any and all ideas-keep 'em coming!

I think too young but if you must at the very most candy or cupcake. I think a 12 yo boy would love those giant sized Hershey bars for $1 at the store!

I would, to me a "boyfriend" at 12 is no different from a friend. Its not like they are exchanging real intimate meaningful gifts expressing their love for eachother. The parents are probably the ones picking it out and the kids don't want to really give it to eachother anyway
