Men get told we give poor gifts, ie sexy underwear is a poor Valentines Gift but the shops market such as gifts.

Please can the ladies here give us a clue as to what a lady would like as a Valentines Day Gift.

I think we should just give them a prepaid (let's not get too crazy!)VISA debit card and let them get what they want. They can also get the card they want (we'll sign it) and everything is good. Right?

Yeah, you better duck. ;)

What I would really LOVE to have is this: I would like to come home to a quiet house (meaning my husband found a sitter) and a candlelight dinner... nothing fancy... it could be Chinese takeout. Just with candles. Then I'd like to snuggle up with a bottle of wine and some really good chocolate. Then a LONG backrub (not the usual 3 minutes-while-watching-TV-over-my-shoulder kind) with massage oil. Then... well, you know.

Last year my husband forgot it was Valentine's day until he stopped for gas on the way home, so I got a fuzzy teddy bear keychain and a rose wrapped in plastic from the 7-11. That is NEVER a good idea, gentlemen.

sexy underwear can be a great gift, as long as it is actually something she would wear, that she would like herself.

the best gifts are when the recipient is really thought about. I had a boyfriend once who constantly gave me red roses. I know, nothing to complain about, right? but I don't particularly care for red roses, and he knew it, but in his mind, romance meant red roses, so it wasn't so much about me, as about him.

Jewelry, guys. Get the jewelry. Hearts are great for Valentine's Day. Skip the chocolate.

well, in my book, the ultimate valentine gift is a spur of the moment trip to WDW

Personally, I LOVE receiving flowers. Doesn't have to be red roses (although a bouquet of those ARE nice :) ), a springtime mix is equally appreciated. A bouquet of flowers is actually my favorite gift to receive for anything. I'll never forget one of our wedding anniversaries (don't remember the number) when DH was in the tractor and couldn't get to town, he called the florist and had a huge bouqet delivered to me and I LOVED that!! Just that he thought about it, and took the time to make the call and didn't use the excuse "I didn't have time to get to town" really made me happy.

Being taken out to dinner and DH pays the bill is always nice too. :)

I like pink roses but I'm happy with any kind of flowers. They all laughed at me at work when someone mentioned Valentine's Day on February 1 and I said, "Excuse me a minute." And immediately sent DH an email saying, "13 shopping days to Valentine's Day!" :rotfl2:

He likes the reminder. I'm not a jewelry girl so that's out. And I agree with Boo's Mom that the ultimate gift is a trip to WDW. We're going in March so that counts, too, I think!

Something from the heart for sure!! If you are looking to buy something then it should be something she mentioned she wanted at some point...and you are so amazing that you remembered she wanted it!! If you are looking to make her feel really loved, a card (one you made yourself or a blank one from the card store) with words from the heart. Why do you love her? What are those little things she does that you forget to recognize on a daily basis? The way she looks at you? The things she does that make you smile...

I really don't want a gift (no jewelry, no candy, no undies...). I like the WDW trip idea (LOL) but that is a little much to hope for. ;)
I would really like a romantic evening with my DH.

I do have to agree with the card thing. The thing that warms my heart the most is a card with writing in it. Not the typed kind, the handwritten "You're so special to me and I'm so glad you're my wife" kind. You write a good card, and the gift is not quite so important.

My best gift was a vegetable peeler! Yes that is right it was a vegetable peeler and it was my best gift because it was something that he had really listened to me about. He saw that I had a broken one- he listened to me complain about it and he did something about it. I loved it! So the point is The best gift is one that shows you LISTEN to her! I also loved it when I got a few paintbrushes that I had wanted. But you really want to blow her mind.... treat her to a surprise when she wakes up--no not that!!!!- do something special for her to see as soon as she gets up- maybe writing on the mirror how much you love her. Or flowers waiting for her on the table when she eats breakfast. Start her day special and it will make it all special!

I already know what I'm getting for Valentines day because of course my boyfriend once again couldn't find a way to keep a secret. :rotfl: :confused3

He's getting me a fish tank and a fish- I've been talking about getting one since I moved into my own apartment. We are long distance so it's kinda cute coming from him.

He gives me presents quite frequently because we don't see eachother as much- usually it's something he would enjoy more ;)

I got HIM underwear for valentines day (I got him a box of funny stuff). They are his regular white briefs. :lmao: Nothing romantic about it but our one year anniversary is a month later and that will be the romantic (more expensive) gift. Besides, I am coming to visit him this weekend, just for the weekend (7 hours on a bus/train instead of driving, so I can sleep/work) and attending a fancy party with him. I am spending money for the bus ticket, hair cut (need it anyway technically), manicure... top it all off with the added stress of getting all my work done ahead of time (grad student) and not working at all while I am with him- that's huge and he knows it. I haven't complained and I know he appreciates my time more than any gift I could give him. :goodvibes

ETA: He LOVED it. Laughed his butt off and then told me it was one of the best gifts he has ever received!!!!!

DH knows he must always bring me a box of chocolates. Unfortunately, he somehow got the notion that I love chocolate Turtles, so now I get them at every occasion. Hubby--I love you, but let's shake things up a bit, get wild :goodvibes

I have received some boring Valentine's gifts--teddy bears, cupid earrings, socks--but the two best and most unusual, by far, were the TENT and the 22-qt CANNER :rotfl: My friends thought they were awful, but I thought they were great. I love to camp and go every chance I get. And we have a garden, so I learned how to process our lovely green beans. apples, and tomatoes so we have delicious organic veggies in the winter. Obviously, my DH gets it right where it counts:love:

Nothing says generic thoughtless gift to me like flowers (especially red roses) on Valentines Day. I've told my husband that I don't want a $100 flower arrangement that will die in a few days, but that's what I get every year because all he has to do is pick up the phone & his credit card. I also am not impressed by cash or gift cards.

Whatever you do get your significant other, put some thought into it. It doesn't necassarily have to be something traditionally romantic (like the above posters vegetable peeler). What makes it romantic is the meaning behind it.

Ok the day is here and this is what I did, I bought a card blank and drew my own image and message on it, this was given with a bunch of Yellow roses not red (my DW favourite colour) and a small box of high quality Chocolates.

Did I pass?

I think you did great!!
I already got mine- an Ipod case! (yes I really needed it!) and some Belgian chocolates! yum.

I can't speak for other women, only myself. I like time better than anything else. DH is my best friend, and giving me himself matters more to me than any gift he could make or purchase. I love simply spending time with him. :)
