Vacuum cleaner recommendations

The only vacuum I haven't been able to break in less than a year is my Dyson. I think I've had it about 5 years now.

I love my Dyson. When I got my first one the salesman said that the cheaper one works just as well on pet hair as the Animal. I am extremely happy with it. I recently picked another one up on sale at Sears for $265 including tax. Well worth it! IMHO I wouldn't spend extra for the Animal. Just a suggestion...

Funny that this thread came up. I just read a comparison test about the new Eureka that is supposed to be better than the Dyson's.

Apparently the Dyson's still won out. We love our Dyson. We got it on a Black Friday deal from Kohl's, that included 20% off the price, plus we got a ton of Kohl's cash back, too! :thumbsup2

I looked up the Oreck XL21 on Amazon, and the reviewers absolutely slam it based on noise level and lack of suction, among other things. Do any of you that like the Oreck have a different model to recommend? The Signature II gets better reviews, but there aren't many reviews yet either. How is it on wood floors?

Ok.. hoping I get this right..

We didn't have a Kohl's card, and they were offering like 20% off a purchase when you open a card, so we did that.. Dysons were on sale for like 349.00 I want to say, and we got $10.00 in Kohls cash for every $50 spent plus another 20% off the sale price coupon they allowed us to stack (actually they gave us the coupon to use!) .. we walked out of there with it for the equivalent of like $200 dollars!

A little over budget, but you can shop for deals. I am too cheap for a Dyson, plus I hate a heavy vacuum almost as much as I hate a bagless vacuum. This one I've had for about a year now and just love it....

Very light, nice and powerful, great large bags that I never have flying debris from when emptying; it's just the best I've ever had. The only negative for some is that the tools go with a separate vacuum that comes with it. Not quite as convenient as onboard tools, but I love the vacuum so much I don't mind at all!

Just want to point out that if you look at the make up of the dyson regular vs animal they are made of the same motor and stuff like that. I have a regular dyson and have had it for almost 8 yrs now and it hasn't ever broken. I have dogs, area rugs and carpet and works great over all types of surfaces.

I had a Hoover before I had my Dyson and I liked it a lot and it lasted for years!!

But I do love the way the Animal has the attachment right in the handle that just pulls up... :)

I was just going to post that link! :thumbsup2 It does sound like the Eureka is a good choice if the Dyson isn't in your budget.

True. The Animal is priced higher because it comes with a powered small head for upholstery (and that thing is fantastic!).

I have a handheld Dyson animal vacuum with a small head for doing stairs and upholstery and it IS amazing. I LOVE it for the stairs especially because it does a good job of pulling up the pile of the carpet and actually cleaning. I HATE the bagless system though.
