I don't get paid vacations, which really blows but I am still excited. How many other people go to Disney or on any vacation and get no pay check on vacation week? :(

My husband started a new job 2 months ago. he won't have paid vacation for the first year. He has to take a week off in July when our baby is born and we wouldn't miss our yearly (November) trip to Disney just because of a little thing like a pay check...HAHA. We will be going without a paycheck both weeks!!!!

Gail T., I work as a waitress so ,no, I do not get a paycheck when I visit the Mouse. So my savings plan for my Big vacation coming on my countdown clock includes saving the money I will miss while out of work. Not only do I not get a vacation paycheck, I very seldom get any paycheck.....any money I make (we get paid $2.63 an hour ) goes right to Uncle Sam. Do not feel bad for me though! One of my major perks of my job is total flexibility! Last year I spend 30 days at WDW!!!

I hear ya! My husband used to be a self-employeed contractor, so if he wasn't working there was NO MONEY! Well, he switch jobs about a year ago - he is now a loan officer. I was so excited about him having benefits & a regular job - but guess what? He is straight commission - hahaha ......so, no work still equals no money! Oh, well. I work & have paid vacations, so that does help a little ...........just takes extra planning

My last two trips have been unpaid leave due to having started a new job (both times) about 2 months prior to a long planned vacation.

Nope we never get paid when we go. ANd we go for 2 weeks. But why worry about a little thing like that. LOL! I mean it's only money right!

I do get 2 weeks paid vacation (which isn't enough for a whole year if you think about it). BUT, my husband is an opera singer and he just got a European tour this summer. So, I'll be asking for an extra week without pay so I can go visit. He'll be working so we still want time to take our regular vacation. Which is in 12 days!

WL here we come.

I'm a teacher, working long term temporary contract so every time the school has a day vacation, I lose a day's wage! In the summer when I go over to Florida I have 7 weeks without a wage coming in.

I still manage to save during the year so I can go over for 3 weeks every July.

I am a travel agent so that is all comission. We also own a pet-sitting business so no pay there when we go away. DH does get 3 weeks paid vacation. I wish we got 5+ weeks in the US like other countries (Australia, England, France, Germany etc..) It would give a boost to the whole travel industry too!

Hi.
My husband has been self employed for over 6 years and doesn't get paid when we vacation.

We save up for the trips. Then we also budget for lower income during the vacationing month.

We make it work and the sacrifices are worth it. And we never have to worry about "asking" for the vacation time. The flexibility is wonderful.

Happy travels!

I'm a home daycare provider and do not get paid for my vacation. I do get paid for all the the days the children are off, regardless of their reason -- whether it's their family vacation, sick days or just a day to spend with their family. In the end it evens out. I just need to save for the weeks I don't have the checks coming in.

I know other daycare providers in my area who are now adding a paid week of vacation into their contracts. I'm not sure I'm ready to do that. I think I'd rather increase my rates to compensate.

Nope, I have never gotten paid for vacation.

DH on the other hand has four weeks coming to him, so he does

My ex only recently began getting 1 week paid vacation. Still no sick or holiday pay. But now that he's considered management he gets one week vacation so he's pretty excited.

I just started a new job, with no vacation time until June. I took a week unpaid in February to cruise with the Mouse.
DH, on the other hand, gets 30 days of vacation a year and can't actually take any due to his training this year.

When I moved to working from home all my work became self-employed contract work.

DH negotiated a fabulous hiring contract when he started his job and gets over 4 weeks of vacation. I'm not sure why he bothered because it's almost impossible to get him to take more than 3 days of vacation and now he has a fabulous bank of unused vacation days. :smooth: :smooth:

:D

He did take a whole week when the baby was born though - I was so excited!

I used to be a daycare provider, so I got no pay for vacations. Now I am a loan processor, but I am paid per file, so again, no pay. If I have all my loans covered, I'll still get paid for them, but the pay for the time I am gone will depend on how many loans we have closing.
