Vacation Recs or websites?

DH and I are trying to decide where to go for our vacation this summer. We kind of want to do one last big vacation before we have kids and want to do something we haven't done before. We have been to Disney 3 times this year and don't want to go there this time.

I cannot find a discussion site for vacations in general and would love some ideas and websites? Any recommendations from other Disers of places to go? I kind of like the idea of an all-inclusive resort but Sandals is quite pricey and I haven't heard of most of the other ones.

We are leaving in 3 weeks for Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This is our family's Christmas present. It is all-inclusive. We looked at many islands in the Carribean but decided on DR because of the price - with 3 kids we have to get connecting rooms. Anyway, I really can't recommend DR since I've never been but I fell in love with www.tripadvisor.com while researching different islands and resorts. There are review, photos, discussion forums, etc. It's really a great site.

Do you like the beach? How about the mountains? Would you want to go to a city? How about a foreign country or not so foreign country. ala Canada or Mexico? Other states? Caribbean island? East Coast vs West Coast? New England vs the Northwest?

Are you interested in history? Do you like to gamble? Ski? Snorkle? Hike?

Do you want to fly? Do you want to drive? How about a cruise?

Trip Advisor has lots of recommendations for places to stay and visit if you get an idea of where you want to go.

If National Parks interest you, try the Xanterra website. We have done Yellowstone several times and also Glacier NP. Hiked up to Sperry Chalet at Glacier and spent the night up on the mountain. That was an adventure. Thought it would take about 3 hours to hike up the 8 miles, and it actually took us 8 hours up and 5 hours down the next day.

We did Sandals at Montego Bay, Jamaica many years ago and like the fact that the price included all our meals and non-alcohol beverages. I think it was the first Sandals that they had.

Aruba was very nice several years ago.

We had originally planned on going to London and Paris but since we went to WDW for Christmas our budget has had to come down and we can't afford the airfare overseas. We looooved our cruise last year and are thinking the beach is the way to go. Thanks for recommending tripadvisor!

Travelpod.com is a great general traveling site. I have all of my trip reports up there, as do many other people. There are trip reports and travel blogs, city guides, ideas and advice, etc. It's a lot of fun to look around on there!
