For us it is usually DH and I going solo or we have vacationed with my parents as well. Now that we have our daughter, trips will of course include her, and I am sure very often, include my parents (now the grandparents).
I am not into the extended family trips mostly because DH and I are very particular about how we like to vacation and frankly, we don't compromise well with those who don't agree. Haha! We do however vacation yearly with our closest friends who moved out of state.

I like a little bit of it all.

I love going with just our family because DH & I take the same approach to vacationing, we have our roles set & we can get through vacation really smoothly & effectively.

But I do like going with my family too because I love my parents & my brother. When we go to WDW in October my parents, brother & his g/f will come with us. I'm really looking forward to it, though I KNOW there will be times where my parents irritate me with all their little idiosyncrasies that always irritate me.

I also enjoy going with friends time to time, especially now that DD is here and our friends have children themselves. It's nice for DD to have someone her age to play with. Plus DH & I are around each other 24/7 -- I like having other people around for the conversation.

But there can be TOO much friend/family vacationing... I like them well spaced out, few & far between.

We only do Disney with me, DH, and our two DS. I prefer every vacation to be that way, but we're going to the Outer Banks next week for my cousin's wedding. 8 or so of my relatives (aunt & cousins) will be there at the same time, but we are staying about 5 miles down the beach from them and only have a couple of things planned together aside from the rehearsal/wedding.

I refuse to travel with the outlaws. No way, no how. I survived a weekend trip with them before DH & I were married, and we both decided we won't do that again. My family (parents/siblings) has never been on a vacation, and it's not likely that they ever will, but I wouldn't want to go with them either.

I voted any vacation is ok. I've vactioned with family, friends, and solo. I like it all!

DBF is really the only person I enjoy traveling with. I'd like to do a "friends" trip with some others to Vegas at some point, but that's really it.

I love vacationing with extended family. One of our best trips ever was WDW with the immediate family, my sister, my parents and DH's parents. The 2 sets of parents were there for only the last 2 days and we split up now and then so nobody really got on anyone else's nerves.

Now that my sister is married and has a DD, we try to travel together whenever we can. Everyone gets along great for the most part. My BIL can annoy me to no end, but I deal with it in order to enjoy the company of my sister and neice. We are currently in the planning stages of a Disney trip in 2012! :)

One thing I love about extended family trips is that it makes it eaiser and more enjoyable when splitting up - if someone wants to leave the group to ride Tower of Terror for the 13th time, there's usually someone else who wants to go, too. :) Also, I think it's just fun with a large group, as long as everyone gets along.

I love going with DH only........and with the adult children. Those are number one.
but I also love going with BFF and we go at least once a year, sometimes 2-3.

The extended family......not so much, but I would.

It's always just been me and DH...not opposed to close family and friends, but we like our time alone too.

For us, it's immediate family only. By that I mean DH and me. Only.

We don't mind going with our parents but prefer to be alone.

We HATE going with extended family.. don't ask.

We've been with friends and don't really enjoy it.

I like to vacation with my immediate family AND my extended family. I think it's all in knowing what you want in a vacation. My older kids are 18 & 24, so when we vacation with them they're usually off on their own for part of the time, which leaves DH & I time to do what we want.

We have full family reunions every 3 years or so and that requires a lot more planning. The biggest piece of advice i would give to anyone planning a reunion is to understand that everyone needs down time. You can't plan every second of the day to be together--someone is going to melt down and throttle someone else. When we travel with relatives we take our own car as much as possible. If we stay overnight, we have separate rooms. We may eat some breakfast together and meet again for supper, but during the day we're all off doing our own thing.

Some of my best vacations have been with my sisters. I camp with one. The other is more of a city girl. But 4 years ago we all met at Yellowstone for a week. Two of us had campers, the rest stayed on site in one of the hotels. We had a total of 12 people representing 5 families. Some of us wanted to hike the trails, some wanted to watch animals, and others just wanted to go to the gift shops. We had such a great time, I look forward to doing it again!

Immediate family only, period.

I'd rather set fire to my own hair than vacation with extended family on either my or dh's side. Fortunately, the relatives on my side have more sense than to suggest such an abomination. But dh's do not and it's been ugly on more than one occasion. He doesn't want to vacation with them, either, but they just don't want to take no for an answer.

Vacation always seem to bring out some crazy, werewolf crap in people. I don't know what it is. I can't vacation with a group. I need to go solo or with intimate family. I went do Disney World with my mom last year and it was ugly. The last two times I went to Disney (with groups) it was disasterous. One day I want to go back just with my daughter.

Someone else who likes to holiday solo :cool1:. I have gone on a few group trips (Egypt, Australia and Norway) Took my sister to disney with her kids in 2008 but I much prefer my solo trips.

I don't mind too much vacationing with extended family and friends, but it never seems as relaxing, so if that's going to be my only vacation that year, then I'd rather it just be immediate family.

I said all the above, but my DH and DD only like immediate family. I could go almost anywhere with anyone as long as it means a trip. :)

Anyone, we vacation by ourselves, with immediate family, extended family or even just friends. Everyone likes vacationing with us because we are very organized, plan a lot of cool things to see/do and love to eat out at nice places.

Heck, *I* want to vacation with y'all :) The reasons I bolded are the very reasons people always act stunned or put off when we talk about vacations. We are all of the above and our friends are of the kind who want to roll out at 10, lay around and drink coffee, THEN figure out what they are going to do that day. The phrases I hear most often are: "You get up at WHAT time on vacation?" "You went somewhere EVERY DAY on vacation?" "That sounds like a nice place to eat/vist, but we don't really like to spend that kind of money." Le Sigh, sorry I can sleep in, sit on the couch all day, and eat McDonald's at home. When I'm on vacation I want to see new things, experience something EVERY MINUTE, eat at places I wouldn't have the option at home.

It always floors me when people spend thousands of dollars on accomodations, airline tickets/gas, and whatnot to go to a far away place and do the SAME thing they do every day at HOME. Which is why I voted vacation with immediate family ONLY ;)

I learned the hard way that I do not like to vacation with many people. I am very selective about who I vacation with because it drives me crazy when people complain, whine, etc. and make me miserable on vacation.
