If I book a vacation package (without travel insurance), can I go back later and add it (before I pay my final amount).

Quesion is: I am not sure that I have convinced my husband to go yet (we were just there in October, but I am dying to go back). I also don't want to miss out on FD. If I make the plans now, can I cancel and get all of my money back? How many days out do you have to pay for your package in full?

Thanks

You can cancel up until the 45th day. Insurance is nonrefundable though. You can add insurance up until final payment is made

Go to the website and look up the insurance. Read up on cancellations and what is considered an eligible expense. After the 45 day mark, even if you have the insurance, you will not be reimbursed the cancellation fees if you simply decide not to go. It has to be an eligible reason.

I do not buy the insurance on a Disney World package. I think (off the top of my head) after the 45 day mark there is a $100 cancellation fee up to a certain date then a $200 cancellation fee. It may have change but that is what I remember the fees being.

I did buy travel insurance the first time I went to Disneyland. Then the cancellation fee after a certain date was 50% of the package. Way to costly not to get the insurance in my opinion. I was happy to have it when our flight was canceled due to a mechanical problem and we had to take a later flight that ended up a connecting flight. So I knew we would get some monetary compensation for "delay of start of vacation" I then got really aggravated to find out that "delay of start of vacation" is considered 12+ hours. We arrived at our Disneyland hotel 11 1/2 hours later than originally scheduled. So we were not eligible for compensation :( That is the last time I purchased insurance.

One thing to note is that the insurance will not cover you if you just decide not to go. The insurance is meant for last minute cancellations due to medical reasons (and now lost of job reasons). I never purchase insurance, you can always reschedule the day before you are to arrive for a $50 change fee.
