Yeah, I know, why consider anything other than a vacation at Disney.....but, hubby and I have decided to take a year off from Florida, so does anyone have any suggestions? We have done the Smokies, Colonial Williamsburg, Amish country, Maine coast, Lake George, Myrtle Beach, Wildwood, NJ. We have 2 weeks to travel, but will NOT fly. So any ideas on the east coast will entertained.

you should go se ben and jerrys in vermont then go see the vermont teddy bear factory!

just a suggestion:)

One of my favorite spots, the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It's beautiful up there just about any time of year.

Another close to you trip would be taking the ferry from Portland, ME with your car and going over to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Try the 2nd week of June when all the apple trees are in bloom. It's an amazing place.

One other idea, Niagra Falls. Another great place to take in during the spring. The flowers on the Cananadian side are breathtaking!

How about taking one of those "let's just drive and see where we end up" vacations?

Niagara Falls is amazing and there is a lot to do i the area. Maid of the Mist Boat Tour, Cave of the Winds, Butterfly Conservatory, Marine Land, etc.

Washington D.C. or Boston are other great destinations. I think everyone should visit these cities at least once.

Do you like to be on the go for 2 weeks or sit and relax at one spot?

From CT I'd probably head up into NH, VT, Upstate NY and Niagra Falls or... take an American Hertiage Tour: Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Valley Forge, Harpers Ferry, DC and Arlington, VA.

LOTS to see and do in DC, but it sure gets hot in the summer!

Have fun and tell us about your trip when you get back, ok?

If you like the beach then Myrtle Beach is a fun place. We spent a week there last summer and had a blast, just watch don't go in August, jelly fish were in. Also the outer banks are peaceful, just not a lot to do other than the ocean.

How about a cruise out of NYC to Bermuda? If you are into beaches, Bermuda has the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen:D It is a wonderful place to visit-very easy to get around using the public transportation system.

A few ideas....
Savannah / Tybee Island Georgia
Berkshire County, MA.
Cape Ann, MA would be another idea. From there you could do a lot.....Salem, Gloucester, Rockport, Boston, etc.
Someone else mentioned northern Vermont.....Ben & Jerry's, Vermont Teddy Bear, Lake Champlain. I want to 'do' that area next time we go to New England.

we've been to williamsburg several times and enjoyed it. also, before i moved here, dc was my favorite east coast vacation destination. :)

As a DC native I would definately recommend DC as a possible destination. LOTS to see and do, definately a fun city.

Another idea I had from your location in Connecticut would be to drive up to Montreal and Quebec City. Beautiful cities, freindly people and a favorable exchange rate. I would also list these two under the "tons to do" category as well.

Hope this helps!

About Chattanooga/Atlanta. You can come down to see Rock City, Ruby Falls, TN Aquium, outlet malls. In Atlanta Six flags, White Water, Munsums, Lenox Square Mall and many more choices in things to do. That would fill up your two weeks vacation time.

lots to do in nh...depending on when you are on vacation...but there's yearround tax-free shopping at loads of outlets if you're into shopping, and the scenery is always gorgeous. maine is also awesome, so are the berkshires in mass. have been there twice and there's loads to do, if you like cultural stuff

Here in GA we like to go to the Northern Gulf coast of FL. Destin, Panama City, and on over to St George Island. If you like the beach, these are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!! White, white sand and clear beautiful water. I have been to Myrtle Beach and like the area, but think the beach is ugly compared to the Gulf coast!

I've been to Savannah, Georgia - very nice town and lots to do. What about NYC? Or, if you want to go to a beach, try Ocean City, Maryland. Just a few ideas.

A trip to New York might be nice. Come to the city, do some BWay shows, etc...Then maybe take a few days upstate. Depending on where you're going, Mohonk is a really nice place-I could find out where it is if you're interested. I know it's near New Paltz-which is a very pretty town. They have rock climbing and hiking, if you're into that sort of thing, it's a lot of fun, and VERY pretty in the fall when the leaves are changing. The hotel up there was even featured on the Travel Channel.
