Any suggestions for fun vacation ideas with a 2 yr old. Not wdw, no beach & no camping.

With a 2-year old, I would choose a place that you want to go and fit in a few kid-friendly activities. Most small kids are just happy to swim in a hotel pool or run around a fun new park.
That’s what I mean. Some ideas of places to go where going with a 2 yr old is possible & still fun for the adults.

I agree with a PP, there's plenty of places you can take a 2 year old which can have activities they can be a part of but I think predominately at that age it's going to depend on what your interests are.

So I guess what are your interests or places you may want to go and maybe that will help drum up some ideas to give?

Actually meant no gulf coast beach areas & not FL. Looking for things we haven’t done.
What are your interests?
I can't think of many vacation spots I wouldn't go to with children besides casinos.

I guess that’s thing. I’m kinda wanting to figure that out. A lot of the things I can think of like Yellowstone or Yosemite that would interest me right now, I don’t want to do with him just yet. I think major cities would be more challenging too. And we don’t like camping. It would just be DH & I & DS so basically something that wouldn’t be too hard with him where DH & I can still enjoy it.

I've found that the keys to traveling with young kids are to find a place with easy access to public restrooms, that's stroller-friendly, and has lots of places where the kids can safely run around.
Yeah exactly so places like that ppl have experience with they excludes the 3 places I’ve said.

How about going to Disney on Ice when that returns or the zoo when they reopen? I really don't remember anything from when I was two years old.

Thanks for the sarcasm. But It’s not for him. We do all that stuff now. It’s more where can we go on vacation that won’t be too hard with a 2 yr old in tow.

I think DC would be great with a toddler, most things are free (so if he is fussy it’s easy to bail), lots of flat walking and open public spaces, public transportation so no need of a car seat, zoo - of course it might have to wait a bit.

Great idea! Thank you!

Not sure where you are and how far you want to travel. My DD, her husband, then 2 year old, and dog, rented a VRBO cottage on one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY. They went to wineries and state parks. Lots of outside time and wine for the adults. They even had a fire pit right on the lake.

I want to go there now.

From the above post, Dutch Wonderland is more appropriate for 2 yo. We went with DGD when she was 2 and it was still a lot for her.

Virtually any city, large or small, has a children's museum. Boston's is amazing, for example. Most of these museums have plenty of stuff for the toddler set--dress-up costumes, playing "store" or "firefighter" or "TV Announcer" and so forth.

Speaking of Boston--there's plenty there for kids. The Duck Boats, the Swan Boats, New England Aquarium, the Science Museum, and, of course, Fenway. The Boston Public Library is lots of fun--and free. Not so much for checking out books, but the last time we were there, we saw a wedding rehearsal in the courtyard. It's a good walking-around city, parks to run in, and the T is a great (and fun!) method of transportation.
