I think they should have posted the company name. How will this help others if they don't know what company they're talking about.

I agree they should. The story had a happy ending as the company we book through helped them out and I read about it on their Facebook page. The news channel also followed it up http://www.wesh.com/news/24604029/detail.html

So all ends well but how many more families will be affected before someone does something?

Our first managment company was a disaster as they scammed renters, did not tell us of rentals and kept all the money...was a scary business for us back in 04!

I spoke to the company (Florida Leisure) I rent from yesterday about my reservation for September and I asked about this scam. They told me that three entities were involved in it. They were the company who rescued the family in distress this week. I have the names but don't think I should post them.

I think you should post it. Even if the accusations are just 'alleged'. Better for people to know and make their own call about it than let people get swindled.

oh gosh, i just narrowed my search down to 9 and now this??? can you please let me know the names so I don't get taken, this is our very first trip and we are trying to save costs but still have a great time, I can't even imagine being swindled, that would crush us

Do not send a check. Always make a credit card payment. Apparently the scam is that they will give you a discount if you pay by check.

Although I prefer to use a credit card, not everyone that asks for payment by cheque is out to scam someone. Most owners charge an extra 3 or 4% for you to pay with a credit card. Now if the total is only $1000. what's $30 more but if the total is $4000 or so it makes a big difference.
