Just wondering...

After reading the earlier thread about the amount of trips taken in a year to WDW, do you get a chance to vacation elsewhere?
Or would you rather not?

We go to Vermont for a week every summer. Just driving around the back roads looking for deer is a fun time. It's a great change of pace from NYC. Like out WDW trips, we look forward to our Vermont vacations months in advance.

My ideal retirement situation (hopefully in about 20-25 years) would be to live mostly in NYC, spend the winter at Disney (on points!) & the summer in Vermont. :D

We go on plenty of dog show trips that we can sometimes turn into mini vacations. We also go at least one other vacation spot every other year in addition to WDW. This year it will be an exchange to Hawaii in two weeks. Our friends (also DVC owners) exchanged one week of another time share for Kauai, and week exchanged one week of DVC to The Big Island of Hawaii, so we will get a nice two weeks of timeshare stays on those two islands and are adding on 5 days in Oahu too. We usually go to California every other year and always go to Pennsylvania in the fall.

In addition to our WDW trips, DH and I go to Tucson for spring training in March, and usually a family trip to my grandmother's in Southern Illinois in summer. Sometimes also go away for Fourth of July to WI or IA.

Next year, we're going to Hawaii for our 10 yr aniversary!

We normally do one other week long trip to various places and a couple of long weekends to Vegas and to Sacramento to see our son. WDW is a must do, but we love going other places as well.

We always go somewhere different every year also. Last Sept we went to Phoenix, Az for 5 nites. This August we are going to Nags Head NC. In July 2003 we are planning to visit some relatives in San Antonio Tx.So we are looking forward to traveling even more when we retire in 2007:D :D :D :D

Our first DVC trip will be The Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, MO during week of 4th of July. Then in October we will be staying at BCV for our first trip home.

Now that we've joined DVC, we've been to WDW three times in the past year (July, January, and March). We bought a resale with points to use before they expired. More commonly, we expect to go twice each year usually in January and again either during spring break, early summer, or perhaps for the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. Currently we are booked for a June trip and another in January (now using current use year points). We will continue to spend alternate spring breaks in Europe (London or Paris) and 2003 will be our Europe year. We also try to do a couple of weekend B&B trips within the midwest during the summer or fall.

We go to WDW every March (one yr. we added a short stay at VB) & we take a non WDW vacation at the end of every Aug. Most Aug. trips are to HH, our "other DVC home", but we drive to HH & always enjoy side trips on the way up & down. We love history & have explored civil war sites. We enjoyed Richmond & the Museum of the Confederacy. We spent several days in Wash DC. Last Aug., we skipped HH & used our pts. to stay at GC in DL for 3 nts., which capped a wonderful 10 day trip from SF to Anaheim. This Aug., its back to HH & we've yet to decide what the side trip will be.

We have always been big on vacationing and I love to reserch the net to find great travel deals, so we still do our other vacations, usually not using points but sometimes trading. (We have a relative who belongs to the Marriot Vacation Club so we can trade with them as well.) Without DVC we would probably go to WDW once a year and then several other places. Now we go to WDW several times a year and we probably do the other destinations once a year. Now that I think about it, I guess we've reversed our habits but, truthfully, I think it's because we've been spoiled. We went to Hawaii last summer for our anniversary (HAWAII!!!!) and several times I caught myself thinking that our resort, as lovely as it was, simply could not compare to a DVC resort. This summer for our anniversary we're going to New York City. Let's see if their entertainment can beat DVC! :p

We do a couple of weekend trips a year (Henry Ford Museum, etc.)

My husband also travels on business about four times a year and I usually go with him. We've been to San Antonio (a great city that we love), New Orleans, Las Vegas, etc. We usually have time in between business for some sight seeing on these trips.

We bought our DVC membership for our relaxation trips. My husband says when we get to our DVC home, it's time to relax.

We try to go to Hawaii every five years.

We ski in New Hampshire at least every other year. We went this year so we only went to WDW once. Next year we have 2 vacations planned in WDW.

We do the same littlestar. We usually go to WDW once a year and then tack an extra week onto a business trip. We have been to a lot of great places doing this. We've been to San Francisco, Denver, Washington DC, San Antonio, etc. This year we will actually be at WDW for 2 weeks since my husband has a conference at the Dolphin. But I have a trip planned in August for my company's international conference in Anaheim. Can you guess what I will be doing before the conference?

We have always done two additional week-end trips per year (usually Upstate or PA). If and when we have no points for a year (like this year) we will be going to Myrtle Beach, SC. In 2004 we will not have points again (doing west. cruise) - will try a new place - after 2004 we plan on going to WDW once or twice a year. If DH had more vacation time, we would be taking more quick trips - I would love to add Cape May, NJ this summer - but any days off now will be to visit colleges for my DS. We have been to many different places and want to still explore many different places (I must say that I do hate flying though).

HH for 2 weeks last year with two 2 BR unit the first week and one the second at the oceanfront Marriott's Monarch then Marriott Grande Ocean. This year is HI for 2 weeks as exchanges (not using DVC). Next year is 8 day in Neuvo Vallarta, MX in a 3 BR, 1800 sq ft, oceanfront unit followed by a week at Marriott's Grande Ocean on HH (own these).

Last year:
February: Tanzania (African safari)
April: Abaco (Bahamian island with low tourism)
June: Bar Harbour
September: Houseboat in Kentucky-Tennessee
This year:
January: Panama Canal Cruise
May: Abaco
September: BWV with entire family
October: Houseboat in K-T
December: Aruba
Unlike many on the boards we only plan to do DVC every 2-3 years. We purchased for a place to enjoy with the entire family. OUr 4th grandbaby is due in August and we think DVC is a great place to gather everyone.
