VA added new info to their site today regarding seat reservations, looks like their site is not ready yet.

Important announcement regarding advanced seat assignment Updated 18 June 2014

The way you choose your seat is changing…but not quite yet.

We recently let you know about a planned change in the process you’ll be able to use to select your preferred seats.

Naturally, we want to make sure the new seat selection process runs perfectly smoothly. Because of that, we’re pushing back the proposed launch date.

What this means is that for now, you can still select your preferred seat (except extra legroom and exit row seats) free of charge from 60 days before your flight.

We’ll be in touch with you again shortly with more detailed information on our plans and what these may mean for your booking/s, with plenty of notice.

What is this like, a year overdue, now?

You'd think they'd be faster at figuring out a way of getting another £50 off each economy passenger.

Maybe they're realising that people are looking elsewhere? :confused3 :lmao:

So I take it the June 25th date for booking seats on all flights is no longer happening?

Oh for goodness sake !!!!!

Well at least this means I won't have to do it on the train going down to Plymouth

Hopefully people have been voting with their pockets? I do think this plan is the definition of robbery......

Grrrrr. I'm on hols next week and was really looking forward to getting there seats booked finally and out of the way.

As i'm away early September it's not all lot longer for the 60 day slot assuming that doesn't change next as well.

Kinda wish i'd stuck with my usual United option out of Edinburgh instead of this direct flight out of Glasgow now.

New memo note to self , 60 days out means seats booked and FP+ challange to get to grips with :)

Have you seen BAs charges then? They charge extra for the window seats plus they charge extra to premium passengers - now that's robbery!

Not only that. They charge extra for window rows even where the row has no window.

they must have the same people developing their software as the US healthcare website :)

seriously, this is one thing i have never understood about VA - why can't you book a seat when you book your flight?
why does it have to be at a later time?
seems crazy to me. There are a lot of things about delta that i hate, but at least you can book your seat when you book your flight.

Until they started "improving" the system you could always book your seats when you book your flights.

This later booking has only been in place for the last couple of years.

Personally, I like the US carriers where you can see the seat plan before you book :thumbsup2

that's crazy!! i didn't realise you used to be able to and now you can't.

Yes, i like being able to see what's available before i book.

my mom is insane - she won't book a flight if she can't get one of her favorite seats. and she has a very small number of favorites - 6 specific seats to be exact.
If one of them isn't available, she doesn't book the flight (that is, on her transatlantic flights - not inside the US).

I think a lot of it came about as they swapped the Airbus in and out of routes, and the refurbs of the 747s, they never knew far in advance what aeroplane would service the route so just closed the seat requests until closer to the date.

:happytv: glad I am not planing her trip !!

Really? I didn't know as after an unfortunate experience with them on my honeymoon I have always refuses to fly with them since. This hasn't changed my mind any!!!!

I'm so confused about this! I've never booked flights so far in advance, so I've not needed to select seats a couple of months out!

We're currently at 63 days until we go... We're flying with Virgin, does this mean we'll be able to make seat selections in a couple of days time?

:confused3

Yes, you can at the moment choose your seats free of charge 60 days before each flight - so your outbound and return flights will be done on different days.
